Is this the same as the MTV group? Don't they have a group called Rock the Vote? He also spoke at Democracy Fest earler today.

"New Hampshire Gov. Howard Dean (news - web sites) opens the Democrats' Rock the Vote party in Boston Sunday, July 25, 2004, on the eve of Democratic National Convention."

I edited out the Republican part, as I realized my mistake.

3. Slight geography problem there!
This is a very cool thing for Dean to be doing.."Rock The Vote"...I had heard about Rock The Vote from my son but I didn't think it was repub.

I just don't associate repubs with Rock.

11. They should just merge together
Some of those northeastern states are way too small to be their own state. Connecticut should merge with Massachusetts too. It would save money on all the extra state government that would be eliminated.

19. At least they would only get two Senators that way
We could take back the Senate.

As for names...I'm sure they would like Dixie. Or maybe Dollywood.

4. Nope, I think I was wrong. I checked the site of one group.
It looks Democrat for sure. There was a CNN group by that name, wasn't there? With Anderson Cooper being the spokesman? Maybe I was thinking of that.

6. Anderson Cooper
is DEFINITELY not repuke. Now I know where we're going though. Anderson Cooper moderated the Rock the Vote debate during the primaries.

10. Rock the Vote is non-partisan
From their website (http://www.rockthevote.com):

Rock the Vote is a non-profit, non-partisan organization, founded in 1990 in response to a wave of attacks on freedom of speech and artistic expression.

Rock the Vote engages youth in the political process by incorporating the entertainment community and youth culture into its activities. From actors to musicians, comedians to athletes, Rock the Vote harnesses cutting-edge trends and pop culture to make political participation cool.

Rock the Vote mobilizes young people to create positive social and political change in their lives and communities. The goal of Rock the Vote’s media campaigns and street team activities is to increase youth voter turnout. Rock the Vote coordinates voter registration drives, get-out-the-vote events, and voter education efforts, all with the intention of ensuring that young people take advantage of their right to vote.

Rock the Vote’s work doesn’t end when the polls close. We empower young people to create change in their communities and take action on the issues they care about. Regardless of whether youth are signing petitions, running for office, contacting their elected officials, or taking up a sign in protest, they are all rocking the vote.

They are very involved in the progessive movement these days. But they do encourage all young people to get involved and to vote.

18. Great article on this event. Looks like fun.

SNIP..."Speaking to a crowd of young voters at a party sponsored by Rock the Vote and Democratic Gain, Dean was welcomed like a rock star. He could barely get through the crowd. Once he reached the stage, with his shirt sleeves characteristically rolled up above the elbows, he was greeted with chants of "Dean, Dean, Dean" echoing back to his rallies this past winter, when the former Vermont governor was running for the Democratic nomination."

SNIP..."He also took time for a little Bush-bashing.
"We're about to take a collection up to buy a one-way bus ticket to Crawford, Texas, for George W. Bush," Dean said.

While he promised not to say anything negative about the president, he joked:
"I didn't see any press out there. So we're going to have a lot of fun."

Amber Tamblyn and Free (who is Free?) were present among others.
