Who is Barack Obama?
On Issues2002.org, it said that he was an "unflinching progressive". It did say, however, that he supports the experimentation of charter schools, which I can assume is about the equivalent of vouchers. He also said on CNN that if he had to vote on the IWR, he most likely would have voted No. If Obama is a progressive, I think it's a great thing to show unity under Kerry. Not saying that Kerry is a Zell Miller, and although his left flank is very secure, it wouldn't help to fire up the liberal Democrats even more.

PS You think the RNC will try to smear Obama with Osama? They'll probably mistake him for a "stinkin' Arab" because of his name.

2. Charter schools are not like vouchers.
I went to a "magnate school" which I think is like a charter school. It was a public school that operated differently then your regular public school. For example, I was in my grade level with math when I was in 4th grade, but I was at a 6th grade reading level. In my school, I learned at my pace. I was in 4th grade math and 6th grade reading. We weren't bound by strict rules and if we felt like reading in the hall, we could go to the hall (or alcove) to read. It was a great learning experience and many of the public schools in my hometown are now magnate schools. Some focus on the arts, some on communication, some on discipline, just to name a few.

Obama is running for Peter Fitzgerald's senate seat and believe me when I tell you, he is the future of the democratic party. If they make a play on his name, they will be making a big mistake. His dad was from a village in Kenya and his mother was from Kansas.

3. Charter schools = vouchers? Not here.
We have charter schools in my county and they definitely have nothing to do with vouchers. Most are alternative learning style schools, to try to see/show that different learning styles are needed for different types of kids (and not "special schools" for "trouble makers").

They are fully funded by the state, and have nothing to do with vouchers.

4. Bio...
http://www.obamaforillinois.com/index.asp?Type=B_BASIC&SEC={98F1584F-9302-4038-BE87-6B52E9151CB3}

Barack Obama has spent a lifetime fighting effectively to empower working families and the poor - as community organizer, civil rights attorney and a leader in the Illinois Senate. He has brought new ideas and approaches in pursuit of traditional Democratic ideals to make a real difference for people -- from better schools to affordable health care to criminal justice reform.

Obama graduated from Columbia University with a degree in political science and a specialty in international relations. He worked as a community organizer in some of Chicago's toughest neighborhoods, helping church groups create job-training programs, reform area schools, and improve city services.

He went on to Harvard Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude and served as the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review. After law school, Obama organized one of the largest voter registration drives in Chicago history to help Bill Clinton's election, and worked as a civil rights lawyer on cutting edge voting rights and employment discrimination cases in federal and state courts.

5. A Dem congressperson (IIRC) was at an event in the WH with an Obama
button on her jacket.

When Bush shook her hand, he was startled by the button. She knew why. She said, "No, that's O-B-ama, not O-S-ama."

Bush asked, "Who's is that?"

She said," he's the Democrat running for the Senate in Illinois."

Bush replied, "Never heard of him."

This was about 6 weeks ago.

Bush's presidential biography is going to be a quick read.

6. Kind of pointless to smear someone if you don't have anyone to run against

7. smearing is all they have
He's got no one to compete against and yet he is still running as though his life depended on it. The man has integrety and honor.

The Osama nonsense came from a liberal joke about Bush. Apparently somebody was visiting the WH and had an Obama for Illinois button on and happened to run into Bush. He apparently jumped back when he saw the button and confused "Obama" with "Osama"

Its a story that's been passed around here, and apparently the GOP found a way to combat it, but giving in and calling Obama "Osama"

This is the only, and most disgusting, thing they have on my future senator. And I can't tell you that I'm more excited about having the honor to cast my vote for him than I do casting a vote against Bush.

8. Obama will win the Illinois Senate seat in a LANDSLIDE!!!!

And he will be the only person of color in the Senate.

Let's put it this way. Obama will be the Tiger Wood of politics. And I dare say he will be a candidate for President or VP in 2012. One this is for sure, the Republicans will NEVER be able to dislodge him from that seat unless they could convince Oprah to run against him.

At least they have features that might make them to be considered "of color" but Im not 100% sure. I think all people that are part Japanese are considered Orientals.
