Aren't politicians interesting? .........Obama open to Clinton as possible running mate
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democrat Barack Obama on Thursday did not rule out selecting rival Hillary Clinton as his vice presidential running mate if he ultimately defeats her in a race in which he has an almost insurmountable lead.

"There's no doubt that she's qualified to be vice president, there's no doubt she's qualified to be president," Obama told NBC News.

"She is tireless, she is smart. She is capable. And so obviously she'd be on anybody's short list to be a potential vice presidential candidate," said Obama, who inched closer to winning the nomination by routing Clinton in North Carolina and almost defeating her in Indiana on Tuesday.

1. He's being kind. She will never be vice president or president. She is damaged goods.

5. You do realize that for him to not at least pretend to think that would be stupid, right?
He needs votes, and he knows not to piss off any potential voters if at all possible. I think she pretty much slit her throat as far as being VP goes.

11. There is absolutly no down side to "considering" and to saying nice things.
The biggest problem is that she would completely trample his message of change and new directions if she joined the ticket.

Still, saying she's smart and capable doesn't cost him anything and can only help.

8. Not gonna happen ...
Hillary on the ticket now would undermine his message of approaching DC politics in a new and different way. She's old school, and has proven that throughout her campaign.

Obama is too smart to undo everything he's done, which has netted him the nomination.

Don't confuse being a gentleman with a willingness to be sidetracked, nor graciousness in victory as a sign that he will change focus in order to assuage Hillary's ego.

28. I am begining to wonder
Besides all of the obvious demographic reasons she may have shown Obama reason to pick her

--she has the stamina and fortitude to run hard in the fall

--she can be the attack dog against the Repubicans

--if she can rip hard on Obama what can she do against McCain?

--she makes it very complicated for McCain - If its Obama/Clinton who in the hell does McCain get for VP???

If he picks another white male isn't that going to be rather odd? does he go with Rice?

If she is the VP all her negatives are not so relevant because she isn't the President

If she wants it that bad, if she is that motivated she would be a nightmare for the republicans

just some late night pondering

12. If he said she wasn't qualified to be president, he'd be doing what
she already did to him, partially, by suggesting that that he hadn't crossed the CiC threashold, a "critical criterion" in her eyes.

15. he will float her name to make amends with her supporters. BUT SHE WILL NOT BE THE VP
do not kid yourselves, barack obama is being very respectful and will weigh all of his options. his number one job right now is to heal the party. he will float her name as a possible VP candidate, but HE WILL NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS CHOOSE HER

anybody who thinks that this is going to happen needs to take a refresher civics/politics 101 class

Doesn't mean he'll eventually pick her.
