Please, spare us the rhetoric.
Edited on Fri May-09-08 08:41 AM by DemVet
While I am a Hillary supporter that WILL support Barack Obama if he is our eventual Nominee, I don't think anyone is helping the situation by posting the "Fuck You" threads aimed at Clinton supporters who say they won't support Obama.

That's just going to make some of them, many of whom are local activists, dig in harder.

From what I've listened to Senator Obama, I don't think he would approve of this "Fuck You" nonsense either.

Many here are pissed at the other side and that's understandable. However, the system is to be blamed, not the candidates.

With the primary season so long, why do we wonder when it's neck and neck to the end?

The primary system, indeed the ENTIRE election process, needs to be revamped. I think it would be in ALL of our best interests if a Nominee was officialy decided much sooner in a much-shortened primary process.

edit...typo

1. The ones announcing their intentions to not support the nominee
can go fuck off. They are republican trolls.

3. Republican trolls?
Yeah, maybe some of them...but certainly not all.

The national polls on this issue are just way too high to blame this ALL on republican crossovers.

Some might be passionate Clinton supporters who will come around once the primaries are over. Passions are high right now, but a month from now it will be finally over. Give them another month.

2. I would feel the same way if the situation were reversed
Edited on Fri May-09-08 08:43 AM by Paint It Black
If Hillary were the clear-cut winner, and Obama supporters were vowing to not support the Democratic nominee, I'd feel the same way. For me, this isn't about simply getting my favorite candidate into office. It's about DEMOCRATS taking over the White House, preventing McCain from packing the Supreme Court for the next few decades, and trying to undo all the damage that * has done.

4. Agreed
It is time to spare the rhetoric on both sides - the primaries are coming to an end. You are right that Obama would not approve of the FU threads. I will defend the author of the thread entitled FU though - it sounds as if he is having a tough time. Give all of us the benefit of a doubt for the frayed nerves.

I agree that the Democratic primary process needs reform. I have seen a proposal from the National Association of Secretaries of State that would have Iowa and New Hampshire still go first, but have the rest of the primaries be regional primaries, with the order of the regions chosen by lot. It would allow for a condensed primary season, and give all of us a rest. I don't have a link, but I remember it from DU a few weeks back.

5. Both sides need to drop the rhetoric
but at the same time there comes a point where people need to realistically figure this is over. My view is let her run the next two weeks and have West Virginia, Kentucky and Oregon vote. She's pretty much guaranteed 2 out of those 3. Then she can leave the campaign on a high note. With in the next two to three days, she's going to lose the lead in the super delegates. If this isn't the signal to wrap things up, I don't know what is.

9. Obama is a gracious and restrained man. The least his supporters
could do is reflect this. If a post annoys/outrages you, so what? Restrain the urge for the FY retalliation. It no longer matters, let them vent, and let Barack be proud of his constituency..

10. I don't know about anybody else, but I feel no wrath at those who
cannot bring themselves to support Obama (as misguided as they may be). It's their perogative - and I recognize that if the shoe was on the other foot I'd have a hell of a hard time supporting Clinton.

I reserve my "Fuck You"s for those who say they WILL vote for McCain. That's a whole other critter.
