When Is The Last Time You've Heard That Many Great Speeches In One Week?
It seemed like the art of oration was going the way of Latin, but this week has given us some real fireworks. I'd say this week put the Democrats back on the map, with a foothold for the next 8 to 12 years.

I know that seems like a wild prediction, but what do the Republicans have going for them? They can't blame us (though they'll try) because they controlled Congress and the White House. It's not like they are going to run on their record. Record of what? Tough talk?

I'd say that the mood of the country is going to swing now that they've seen what the GOP would do while in power.

This last week of speeches has shown that the Democrats have some real balls (pardon my French) and represent the voice of reason. As much as Republicans decry us out of the mainstream, they are only isolating themselves further with their viciousness. Not to mention the predictable results of their warmongering (at least those on the Left predicted it).

The rhetoric this week was the perfect mix of slamming the current administration's record, demonstrating strength, and providing an uplifting message of hope and progress.

I am expecting Congress to go our way and Kerry to appoint several liberals to the Supreme Court. Major health care reform is on the way, clean energy reform is on the way, economic justice is on the way, help - help is on the way.

1. It was awesome!
Even a freeper I know complimented us on our convention. He said he hoped the repubs would do as well.

3. I second this notion and couldn't be happier.
It's now John Kerry's Democratic party and he and we are ready to rock!

4. fantastic stuff
Was very happy that I haven't heard a sour note struck by anyone. The party is very unified this year, as they obviously should be. Excellent.

5. Never, ever
It was just one great speech after another. Like actual stuff you remember and want to quote later. It was wonderful. Never been so proud to be a democrat.

7. Actually...

I found myself quite amused by the DU'ers who wanted more "diversity" at the convention... in the way of homemade signs from special interest groups.

In actuality, I think the diverse opinions of the party WERE represented, even if it wasn't on prime time. EVERY primary candidate got to speak. A SIGNIFICANT number of African-Americans got to speak (Sharpton, Brown, Mfume, Obama, Clyburn to name a few!) there was gay representation (Frank), incredible female representation, and overall, people from a tremendous diversity of backgrounds... and all AGES!

In a unique and perhaps untested manner, the Democratic party showed the STRENGTH of its diversity by having a diverse group of speakers representing a diverse set of views pretty much give a unified message.

Especially if Bush self-destructs, and unless we have a national emergency and suspended elections, I seriously think we can win this one.

8. The only sour note...
...was the cut back in Network coverage which meant that many of those speeches weren't seen by those who we wanted to see them. Still, some were, and most people have cable or dish while others could tune into PBS. The Press was impressed also, so our message is getting out, if not in all of its details, than as an impression: The Democrats are ready to lead.

11. Add me to the *never* list.
:hi:

Course, I'd put JFK and MLK up there in the list of men who've made historically amazing speeches as well. But this week we had so very many.

15. 1984
You had Cuomo as a keynoter (historic speech and in response to the Republicans), Jesse Jackson, Mondale gave a great speech, and Ferraro as the first woman nominated by a major party. This convention was good but it didn't top that.

16. I've watched every Democratic convention since 1972
And this was the best by far. Gore was great. Clinton was great. Obama was great. Sharpton was great. Max Cleland was great. Kerry had a WHOLE lot more to accomplish than any other candidate before-- the pressure on him was absolutely enormous. Yet he was fucking GREAT. Spectacular! Beyond my wildest dreams. I sincerely hope this convention comes out on DVD so that I can buy several copies for my friends and family, especially the hardcore Republicans. It was just that good.
