Volunteers to watch the republican convention
Listen, I can't do it. I don't have the stomach for it. But, I would like to keep tabs on some of the outrages. Perhaps some DU'ers would be willing to set up a schedule to watch the convention and keep the rest of us informed. It is an idea.

1. I'm planning on going
if anyone wants to share a room, I'm safe and married, let me know. I'll be going from Washington St. I just hope the plane tickets aren't a bazillion dollars.

2. I'm going to watch whatever they have on PBS.
I'll have a notebook, the VCR, a bag of popcorn, and my TV brick!

3. Not to worry...
I plan on watching it on telelvision just as intently as I did the Democratic. I my opinion my beliefs cannot be justified unless I take time to listen to what the other side has to say....

7. Me either. So very sorry, but I'll need to volunteer for other
duty! I'd rather be sent to Iraq at this point than listen to the lying contorted hate of the RW.

Thank you in advance to those willing to do so and report back. Your sacrifice is greatly appreciated by this DUer.

8. I'll help keep an eye out on those slime balls. I have a big barf bag!
However, I think that we need mostly to focus on our message, not theirs. Don't let them suck up our energy. :yourock: We all rock :grouphug:

9. Not sure I can stomach it
Remember that Alka Seltzer commercial from the 70s? "I can't believe I ate the whoooooole thing."

I'll try to watch the Republicans, but there's only so much lying I can stand. I had trouble watching the Democratic convention after awhile, when they were all repeating the same cliched lines over and over again (as a copyeditor, I can tell you, if I'd had a crack at some of those speeches, I'd have blue-penciled every use of "strong at home and respected abroad").

But I'll try. At least a few of the major speeches.

10. I listen to Bush if he's on NPR
Because I think it's good to be informed about something before you passionately hate it. However. I usually end screaming at the radio and almost getting into car accidents.

I probably won't be able to stay away from it. I'm such a scab picker that way. Their bullshit both infuriates and energizes me. I'll probably only listen to Cheney and Bush, though. I can't really afford an ulcer right now, I'm too busy.

12. Careful.... (assuming we're all 21 here)

RNC Convention Drinking Game

Rules:

When you hear “weapons of mass destruction” chug a beer.
When you hear “faith based” chug a Merlot.
When you hear “The economy is improving” (or similar) chug rum.

But what ever you do, the most important rule of all, the one rule that you must never, ever forget:

***Don't listen to George W. Bush and drive!***

(you've heard it here first... maybe)

11. I'm looking forward to it!
After the Democratic Convention co-opted (or un-co-opted as the case may be) the standard GOP tropes such as the military, the flag, patriotism, a balanced budget I can't wait to see what they'll pull out in September. And I'm especially looking forward to the rousing intro Jenna and Barbara Bush will give their father.

Did you notice that at this week's convention non-whites were scattered throughout the crowd rather than all pushed up to the front? As if diversity were natural and no-big-deal :-)? I liked the Sikh delegate with the red/white/blue turban (there was just a quick shot of him on c-span - couldn't tell where he was from)
