Amazing responses when I wore my Kerry t-shirt today |
|
I *finally* got my Kerry gear and wore the t-shirt today for the first time as I ran errands all over the place. Got some incredible responses over and over and over again, not a single ugly word was said to me. One example: big burly white macho-looking guy, I was expecting the worst, but he launched into a huge diatribe against Bush! Turns out the guy works for Ford and is furious that he hasn't had overtime in months. He was also really pissed off about the soldiers dying in Iraq for nothing, the Bush lies, etc. Just got into some terrific conversations with people who are no longer afraid to come out and be heard. They were coming up to me, wanting to vent. I saw so much healthy anger, but also so much hope and optimism (an interesting blend).
Overall, a great feeling! :)

4. Oh, don't get me started with Ann! |
|
Lots of Ann worship at my house. Heck, I've got an "Ann Richards for Governor" button on my fridge, her autobiography is prominently displayed in my home, etc. I'm convinced that the Shrub Machine was just getting some practice when they took it away from Annie. She should have won that race. Let me adjust my tinfoil hat. :tinfoilhat:
By the way, the big burly guy who talked to me in the store today was stunned when I told him I'd moved up here from Texas. He said, "Then you know, you know better than anyone, you Texans, just what a nightmare this guy was gonna be before he even got in there." Yep, we sure did!

This state is still definitely red but *'s numbers are down from 2000. A little gratifying, anyway!
You started in Texas and went to Michigan -- I lived in Battle Creek for ten years and ended up in Texas (via Indianapolis)!
:toast: (That's Shiner in those mugs!)

8. My parents live in Burleson, TX now |
|
and my dad put out a Kerry sign and it lasted THREE WEEKS, which is astounding for that area. Also, he has two Kerry bumperstickers, yet has not had his pickup truck keyed so far. I say there's hope for my home state yet! By the way, I'm crazy about Michigan and would happily stay here forever. But there are a few things I do miss about Texas, i.e. my family and barbecue. :D I visited last month and didn't see ONE SINGLE B/C sign or bumpersticker while driving around North and Central Texas. Back in 2000, that Bush worship was everywhere, so it's quite a change.
But it's still hard to be a Dem in Texas, no question about it!

10. I've noticed the same lack of B/C signs in the Austin area |
|
compared to the last election, and even long after. That tells me that some people who kept their stickers on have actually removed them and not replaced them!
Austin is liberal compared to other parts of the state but there are plenty of Republicans here, too. And they may still vote for * but they don't seem to be so proud of it.

2. Perhaps that's why Zogby's latest poll show K/E now leading B/C with men! |

How I didnt know we could do this. I am simply astonished. Thank you John Kerry. According to a Zogby poll, K-E leads in the south too!

3. My car flag is gettin' some reaction. |
|
Tuesday I passed a guy trying to turn left off Santa Moncia BLVD and he was giving me the "V" sign and honking.
Yesterday while stuck on the 101 the guy in the next lane and I were waving at each other and cheering "Kerry! Kerry! Kerry!".
Everyday on my way to and from work I see close to 20 Kerry stickers on cars. I pass a "Bush" one the other day and they gave me a dirty look.

I almost ran my car off the road today trying to get the attention of this man who had a Kerry bumpersticker, but I couldn't get him to look over. Damn, we're all gonna die in the bumpersticker wars! LMAO

9. My 13 year old daughter got her Kerry shirt in the mail today, too... |
|
She bought it with her own money. She also got a pin which she promptly attached to her new book bag. I did talk to her about the fact that we live in a Republican area (SE Pennsylvania), and that some people might give her some grief. I just wanted to prepare her, because she is just a kid, and Repukes can be nasty. She knows, but feels very strongly about it anyways.
I am so proud of her!!

I got my Dem Store package today, and my Kerry/Edwards bumperstickers yesterday. I decided to put TWO on my car, one in front and one in back!
I haven't seen too many, but they are popping up all over.
I live in Guilford County, NC and there's a lot of controversy here about whether we are blue or red. For registered voters, we're blue. But 4 years ago, the blues stayed home and the reds gave the county to Bush.
I'm hoping I can help make sure that doesn't happen again!

12. What do you think our chances are to take NC |
|
in reality? If you had to be completely objective... what does it "feel like" on the ground? I love to fantasize about winning NC, LOL!

13. I don't have a good enough feel yet... |
|
Ask me again in September, after the RNC.
I talked last night to a friend who said that volunteer turn-out at Dem HQ for our county is record-breaking. People want to get involved and make sure we deliver the state to Kerry. The Young Dems are gearing up to get most of the college kids to register locally so that they don't have to do absentee voting. I've heard that NCA&T, a historically black state university, is having a major voter registration drive right when the kids get back for the fall. So, there's a LOT going on...
But I've also heard from folks who aren't impressed with Edwards' local record. So we'll have to see if he can win on "home-town charm" alone.
I'm in a relatively liberal county, so to get a good feel, I may visit a few others. I figure if we can get the folks in Fayetteville (the military base) to vote for Kerry, we've got it made...

14. When I was visiting my wife in the hospital (breast reconstruction |
|
post masectomy) some freeper type scrawled "libril dumbass" on my 'kick them out!' rear window sticker. That the moran was incapable of spelling liberal caused me and my wife to laugh so hard that we have chosen to preserve it for posterity.
