2. I had a beer while with *
although, he didn't. Right after he became the managing general partner of the Rangers, I got to sit with him for a game.

8. He was a nice guy
I was only 19, but you generally don't get carded when you're sitting in the front row with the son of the president.

I don't know - was Edwards in one of those pics??? Closer to my age, so I guess I'd pick him, maybe Affleck.

3. Oh! My quick look ..I thought that was Edwards with Kerry!
bush looks down right pathetic...like a caricature of himself. And cheney looks particularly, disgustingly, ugly!

Since I don't drink beer..I'd rather be in a Foxhole with Ben and Kerry!

15. Don't people realize that you CAN'T have a beer with Bush?
He's an alcoholic! Do all these people who would like to have a beer with Bush want him to fall off the wagon?

22. YES, YES, YES
A thousand times yes!

Being the guy at the bar that made Bush fall of the wagon in a manner that would publicly humiliate him would be the highest achievement in barflydom. That is exactly why I'd rather have a beer with Bush than with Edwards, Kerry, Bennifer, etc. Because with them it is just a beer and some conversation, maybe some peanuts too. With Bush it is one beer, then another, then a few more, and before you know it you're drinking bodyshots off of strippers and doing lines of coke off their butts. The next day a major scandal has broken out. Bush's approval rating is in the crapper. And all because you said "Hey dubya, lemme buy you a beer"

20. I like beer
but in all honesty, I'd prefer not to have someone drunk in the WH like Nixon and possibly Bush as well.

So, I would rather the president not drink, while in office.

21. Did you ask
which one I'd rather throw a beer at? ;) Because then it's a toss-up between the first two. It would have to be a cheap beer, though, because I wouldn't waste a good brew on either one of those guys.

24. I've got my own beer drinking buddies, thank you very much.
Seriously, I don't pick a president because he/she's likeable or because I can have a beer with him/her.

I want someone whom I can trust in a crisis, when the shot and shell are around me. Someone like John Kerry.

BTW, this guest Newsday columnist thinks so, too.

(snip)
In 2000 we tried electing a beer-drinking buddy and look what it got us. A guy with so little experience and curiosity about the world that he allowed himself to be dragged into a war in Iraq.

(snip)
On the domestic side, this guy has spent money like a drunken sailor without any regard for huge deficits.

Maybe it's time to start picking presidents like we'd pick a brain surgeon. If someone has to cut open your head, do you really care if he is likable or charismatic?

What about that old-fashioned notion that people should be elected because they can actually do the job? We care about that for student council elections and then, by the time we're grown up and are voting for president, we care whether he makes our hearts go pitter-patter. (??)

Honestly, let's get real. The next president will lead a complex world filled with dangerous and still largely invisible enemies.
