According to News Meat, Toby Keith gave money to George Bush's
re-election campaign. I thought y'all said he was a Dem? Maybe I'm wrong about that recollection.

2. I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt...
September of 2003 was a lifetime ago (in politics, I mean). Many things have happened since then. Perhaps he's had a change of heart?

Or, I could be a naive optimist. :evilfrown:

11. He campaigned heavily for the Dem. governor of Oklahoma
And also for a Dem (quasi-Dem as he is the son of DINO David Boren). He likes Bush b/c jingoism is good for his album sales. And they savage Michael Moore for being an opportunist...

12. most of the country music stars .....
INCLUDING Toby Keith are republicans. The Dixie Chicks are Dem's. Willie Nelson is a Dem. I'm sure there are few more but I can't think of them right now.

13. He said in a recent article "you might be surprised
to know that I'm a registered Democrat", but I'm sure he would vote for whatever candidate might help his career and at the time that was Bush. He later said it seemed to him like going into Iraq was a mistake, but as far as I know he has never apologized to the Chicks, so FUTK.

Edited on Sun Aug-01-04 12:13 AM by zulchzulu
Toby Keith is destined to be the '00s next Kenny Rogers. No, make that the next Wilber Stanley. Who fucking cares... He might be playing some gig at Branson with the Baldknoppers Family Jamboree if he's lucky.

I've been subjected to his predictable music and he is a talentless hat act. Jingoism will only get you so far.

19. Toby's an example of an average Oklahoma Democrat...
He did a big benefit concert for Dan Boren's Congressional Campaign and helped OK Governor Brad Henry gin up support for a lottery... but he's also on record as saying he's "a very, very conservative Democrat." (I can't quote a source on that quote, but I remember hearing about it)

A large percentage of Oklahoma Democrats are more conservative than their brothers and sisters elsewhere in the country... it pains more progressive Democrats such as myself but a "D" behind someone's name is better than nothing.

20. "People don't realize that I'm a registered Democrat,"...
...he (Toby Keith) says. "They automatically assume that I'm a chest-banging, war-drum-pounding Republican with my military stance."

Keith goes on to compare himself to Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut: "a conservative Democrat who is sometimes embarrassed for his party."
