Without Nader, it's Kerry at 52% with Bush at 44%, with 4% undecided. http://www.pollingreport.com/wh04gen.htm

Kerry's speech, and that day has him up 54-41 (I assume that's without Nader). It'll be interesting to see what other polls done completely AFTER the convention show. This poll shows an 8-point bounce for Kerry, which is very good, considering he was in already in excellent shape before the convention.

5. great news. Hope the Repuke convention doesn't evaporate this. |
|
The Repuke convention has a choice, either a dour affair filled with fear, or an upbeat one with cool music and happy people like we saw.
They can't do both!
PS what ideas will the Repuke convention copy from ours? Bank on this - on their big screen, you'll see "Registered Democrat, Sam Henshaw from Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Want's honor and integrity in a leader. Voting for President Bush."

7. There's an important difference between the DNC and the RNC. |
|
Most Americans polled prior to the convention didn't feel they knew John Kerry well, so when he made a good impression at the convention, it appears to have given him a nice bounce in the polls. People are getting comfortable with the idea of him as President.
Conversely, the American people have known George W. Bush for four years now, and his poll numbers/approval ratings demonstrate that they aren't that impressed with him. The likelihood that he'll get a bounce as big as Kerry's isn't that great, IMO. The most he can probably hope to do is hurt Kerry's numbers.
As always, though - I could be wrong.

in fact, I was thinking the same thing yesterday. Who in this country, in this world, is not familiar with this guy and his bankrupt economic policies and foreign policies? After the convention, why would a whole lot of people suddenly go "Oh my, did you hear about this George W. Bush? Hmm, sounds like a great candidate, etc."
It just doesn't wash.

9. their only trump card is scaring the daylights out of Americans |
|
That's it in a nutshell. That's all they have.
By late October if there is no surprise or a new war and Cheney is still an albatross around Bush's neck, and Kerry is ahead in the battleground states, it will be drummed incessantly that "If you dare vote for Kerry, that could usher in the end of civilization itself. Do not make that mistake, for God's sake. Let the Democrats win in 2008 if you will, but in 04 don't take that risk, blah blah."
In fact, it's even starting now, and I'm confident it will be said at the convention.
This is the fear year.
