Derogatory terms like O-nut and Hillroid don't belong here..... |
|
How childish is it to resort to that type of name calling? The world stood by and watched history, a black man and a woman dueled it out for the Democratic Party nomination. Either way one of them was going to be a first. As long as the world exists, generations will talk about when Barack and Hillary broke through barriers and fought it out to be either the first Black man or the first woman to secure the nomination of a major party for president of the United States. Documentaries will be made on it. Books will be written. People will win Pulitzers in the future analyzing and reporting about this race. It will be remembered as one of the truly great moments in American history. In world history.
And what will some people be able to say they contributed during this historic period? Most of us can say we viewed history and were an honorable part of it. We'll be able to speak about it with class and dignity and pass the experience on to other generations.
But some of you will only be able to say you devolved into a petty hatred that saw you resort to calling fellow Dems childish names. You should be ashamed of that.

17. Why focus on derogatory terms for candidate supporters? It seems kind of... |
|
hypocritical to ignore all the other name-calling and insults that go on here.
Personally, I don't like message board rules in general, but I follow them if I care about remaining in the forum. And I very much want to continue in this forum.
We are all adults, and usually the message board community sorts out its own problems without heavy-handed intervention by moderators (which I believe is not done here; it's closer to a free-speech environment than the vast majority of other message boards).
I don't think it's a good idea to call each other names now when we need to be united. But, IMO, starting a message topic with a declaritive of what doesn't belong here is a pretty ham-fisted approach and, unless you are a moderator, really kind of presumptive for you to make.

or Hill anything else. I find it quite amusing as I am sure most Hillary supporters do.

18. I don't know if you've noticed it but some Hillary supporters are just a tad sensitive.... |
|
and understandably so at this point. I'm glad it doesn't bother you (it doesn't bother me to be called an Obamabot, unless it's by a drunk and then they make such a mess of it, I DO get ticked off), but others have expressed being upset by using such terms as they consider them derogatory, sexist, etc., etc., etc.
Just waving hello to you while sitting under my Democratic Party Big Tent and singing Kumbaya. Care for a beer? Pizza will be delivered here in a few minutes.

3. well, online people tend to express a "different" part of themselves. |
|
It's funny to imagine the mild-mannered well behaved people you encounter in everyday life getting on line and snarling "FUCK YOU< ASSHOLE!!!1!
But they are.
Then there's our friends the stealth freepers et al. That's a whole other level of weird.

Even after the race is effectively over. Suppose somebody said it was too late to complain about derogatory slurs toward women or other minorities? It would be a ridiculous idea to think that. But it's not so much the name calling as the overall hatred involved.

Ruggerson called me on it, as he should have. :toast:
I've been very, very careful otherwise to avoid using names like that, just using Hillary/Obama supporters or fans.

I can see how someone can do it. I've been neutral on them, so I suppose my investment wasn't so heavy that I would look for a fight about something. :)

13. While I wish I could say that I haven't had an embarrassing knee jerk reaction here, I can't. |
|
But I can proudly say that I've never called an opponent a name like hillbot etc., nor have a demanded that someone quit drinking the Kool-aide, or flav-o-aide.
I've never understood the bragging of ignore lists either. Until recently, I had no one on ignore, but it was through a couple of PMs with an opponent that I realized that I would really like this person if it wasn't for our choice of candidates, therefore out of respect, I put this person in ignore for the remainder of the primary.

Sorry.
Seriously, this is probably the first of your non-humor posts I've read. Good to see the other side, the man behind the legend, as it were.
And I agree 100%. I've thrown down with the best (worst?) of them here, but the only people I've referred to as 'Hillbots' are the trolls who post nothing but advice that Obama supporters 'should act more like your candidate'; they are 'bots' like those little computer viruses that run in the background and do insidious things.
