Floridians check this !!!!
I don't know how to post the thread, but check the January 4,2004 St Petersburg Times. sptimes.com The article by Adam C Smith, Times Political Editor entitled "Bush-Cheney campaign puts Florida shoe leather to work".

It is a description of the massive Florida plan already being put in place and functioning for the November election.

3. great post
it's scary knowing im in the key battleground state. it's even more frightening knowing that it's still governed by George's brother. regardless, they can send as many operatives as they want down here - we have more.

5. The Bu$histas have nothing on the Deaneacs.

This is why we have to make sure that whoever wins the nomination has a well-organized grass-roots campaign.

The Bush-Cheney team has been quietly training more than 2,000 Florida campaign volunteers, reaching out to tens of thousands of swing voters through phone banks and preparing to field an army of activists to maximize Republican turnout on Nov. 2.

No problemo! In Asheville, NC alone there are several hundred people mobilized to do the same for Dean. I was raised in South Florida, and on election day I'm going to call every person I have ever known growing up to get them to vote for Dean. I imagine the So Fla Dean activists, who have much bigger numbers are going to do the same.

I'll bet that Dade County alone will have 2000 Deanies calling people and getting out the vote.

There is no way in hell that Bu$h is going to be able to match the grass-root activism that the Dean campaign has harnessed. Dean supporters have the fire-in-the-belly that the Bush campaign just can't buy.

Florida is going to Dean. The only thing that could trump the sheer people-power of the Dean campaign is the voteing-machines.

8. Clark & Dean are tied there. Clark's going up slightly, Dean down slightly
I wouldn't count on it. Clark has a very strong grass-roots organization there AND we just started a few months ago.

6. We scared them with Clark and Dean campaign efforts at the Outback Bowl
in Tampa. Both the Clark and Dean campaign got major media coverage. On the front page of the Tampa Trib, instead of saying much about the game itself, they zeroed in on the political campaigning. Kudos to both the Clark and Dean campaign workers.

The Clark people also had a large photo on page 4 of the Trib, got got interviewed by several of the local TV stations, and were mentioned in US News Magazine (National Coverage).

Iowa Wins Florida Caucus
Hawkeye Fans Escape Cold Weather But Not Politics

-snip-

"With the presidential election season about to swing into high gear, a stadium packed with 20,000 or so Iowans was the perfect spot for a little campaigning. The Iowa caucuses are Jan. 19.

Outside the Iowa Alumni Association tent, a Howard Dean campaign headquarters had sprung up. A group of Wesley Clark supporters set up shop on the east side of the stadium."

7. Repuke grass roots organisers
...are going to be surprised by the unfriendly reception they get in Florida urban areas. They're dreaming.

Jeb's devious plan to damage the state's education system; the crushing blow to the Florida economy in 2001 and 2002; the Enron swindle of $300,000,000.00 from the state pension fund and the wholesale destruction of IRAs and 401Ks; State University tuition hikes; and the residual bitterness from the theft of 2000 will amount to a cool reception for hopeful repukes. The central regime's overt lying and misrepresentation about virtually every issue, but most significantly medicare and health care costs has alienated those elderly floridians most likely to vote.

It's going to be a tight race. The compromise in the state legislature over tort reform is reflective of that. You can't overwhelm the liberal elements in Florida even with control of the House, Senate, and Governor's mansion. Of course, ballot tampering and evoting are the wild card. Clark could help Dean deliver Florida by appealing to the large number of military and ex-military here.
