Question In reference to Swing States
Which states are considered "Swing" states?
How many Swing states has Hillary won thus far?
Which ones were they? What was the margin of victory and the date of the primary/caucus

Thank you! :hi:

2. Ohio, Pennsylvania, And Florida
No candidate has been elected president in the past one hundred or so years without winning at least two of those three states...

5. So you think that Obama cannot win Ohio and Pennsylvania?
and if so, why not? Because at this point, I don't think Hillary can win either.

6. My Opinion Is Of Little Importance And I'm Not Egocentric Enough To Think It Is
That being said, the truth will be revealed in the fullness of time...But I expect the winner of two of those three states to be our next president...

14. You are probably correct.
And it doesn't look good for the Dems right now.

3. Here's an easy answer ...

The more important question is, 'Which states will be in play if Obama is the nominee?' (You and I both know it's when, but we'll play along.)

Kos has done excellent analysis of this and his most recent post on the subject--which was back around May 5th, IIRC--showed that he would be competitive in more states than HRC would be. That is to say, with Obama at the top of the ticket states such as Texas and Alaska are suddenly within striking distance for us to win. HRC seems to be more 'love her or hate her' in that she currently wins more states, but generally the states she loses she loses by a larger margin.

I'll see if I can dig up that link for you. ;)

Edit: Here's the link for your reading enjoyment!

10. What about Illinois? Do you think Illinois will be a swing state this year?
I was kind of surprised it wasn't listed as one.

7. Swing states are states that in an otherwise close election are within 5% one way or the other.

8. I Would Endorse That Notion
Somehow states which the Democrats lost by more than a dozen points in 2004 are now considered "swing states"... We will see in the fullness of time if this comes to pass...

12. I think it will also depend on who Obama will pick as his vice presidential running mate.
I think Obama should make the announcement as late as possible.
Do it at the convention.
That would ensure that the MSM would have to carry all 4 days of the Democratic convention, not just 3 days like they did back in 2004.
Also, this way it won't give the MSM very much time to trash Obama's choice.
It would also hinder McCain's campaign from digging up dirt on his vice president candidate.

The biggest debacle of the last 8 years is the Iraq War, Bush's war.
But, next to that monstrosity of a mistake, was the entirely inappropriate, poor, inadequate, completely irresponsible response of the Bush administration to the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.
New Orleans suffered more deaths than the attack on 9/11 in New York City and more damage was done to that city than any city in the United States for nearly 100 years.
You have to go clear back to the San Francisco earthquake to find a city to be as devastated as New Orleans was in 2005.

Therefore, I think Obama should choose Senator Mary Landrieu as his choice for vice president.
She's from Louisiana and she has proven many times that she is a real fighter.
I also think she would add some balance to his ticket.
But, that's just my opinion.

13. Oregon has been pretty close to the definition of a swing state
the past two elections, but it has become a bit stronger for the D's since then. My guess is it won't be in play for McCain if Obama is the nominee.
