Gephardt doing good on cspan
Edited on Sun Jan-04-04 02:06 PM by JI7
i admit i didn't think of gep much when he entered the race. but i have really started to like him. i think his background has a lot to do with it as he seems to really understand people who are struggling for basic things. the people seem to like him very much and i can see why. their admiration for him seems to come from years of long hard work defending unions and other working people.

1. Yes! I have switched my backup vote from Clark to Gephardt
All the DU liberals should take a good look at Gephardt. This guy can deliver the liberal goods!

Here is a copy and paste of my new thread on Gephardt:

I am listening to Gephardt on CSPAN right now. I have been thinking about this for a while, and now I am sure. This guy is pretty much a real liberal: he has union roots and talks all the right stuff. And more importantly he has a history of being what he is right now, unlike Dean, who is wearing liberal clothes to disguise his true neoliberal cryptoRepublican self (see www.mylinuxisp.com/~cryofan/dean.html for proof). I am not in love with Gephardt's universal healthcare (it is not nearly as good as Kucinich's version), but it is good for a start).

Clark is well qualified, and I am sure he could beat Bush, but listening to Gephardt right now, I can tell you that Gephardt could also beat Bush. He can fire things up a bit on the stump. And Clark does have the troubling lobbyist/GOP flirtation thing to think about....Just how much of a liberal will he be? No real record there to peruse....

Clark is a good Stop-Dean candidate, but I now think that Gephardt is a better Stop-Dean candidate. And Gephardt is going to show strong here in Iowa.

Looking at Gephardt's solid union liberal, I can see why the media has somewhat shorted him on coverage: this guy might very well raise taxes on the upper income brackets....I am sure that worries them. And that is why Dean is the media's fairhaired boy: he is a Park Avenue multimillionaire who has attacked the left repeatedly.

Of course, Kucinich is still my favorite, but if his campaign does not take off, Gephardt is my man.

I am curious as to why there not more Gephardt fans here on DU. It is all Dean, Clark, Kucinich, and Kerry. Nothing for Gephardt! Why?

2. internet use does not represent democratic party
internet users, especially those who use often are those with money. not all of course, but most. many gep supporters are longtime supporters who are working class people, labor, etc. they don't hav ea lot of money, but they are good hard working people who deserve much more than they get back for their work. gephardt comes from this class of people also.

5. The blog on his main site
www.dickgephardt2004.com is pretty busy, actually. While he may not have the web presence of some of the other candidates, it is definitely there.

6. good to hear that
hopefully it means he is getting more supporters. but i know he has many supporters outside of the internet area and they deserve to be counted just as much as those who are online.

3. Gephardt always does good
What I want to see is the Clark / Gephardt ticket for 2004. I think that would give us a REAL FIGHTING CHANCE

7. A Clark/Gephardt ticket
could deliver MO's electoral votes to us, and ultimately the entire election. That makes it a good idea.

8. he's great!!!
im a union man and a gephardt fan. i love the guy. he's been fighter for unions, especially those that have been really hurt by bad trade agreements. so the folks in my union (uaw) feel as if they know the guy's heart and we won't have to worry about our jobs going to mexico, china, indonesia, sri lanka etc...

11. It seems they know that already
Mainly they are shipping out IT jobs because those poor guys don't have any one representing them. Should have read the article here a month ago about Denmark and the power of the National Labor Union there. 5 or 6 weeks of paid vacation / cradle to grave health care. Not just for the union members but for every one in the country. Why because the unions there endorsed them thats why.

Then SOBs like Rush try to blame the unions for the current state of affairs. What back stabbing liars they are.

12. Yes Clark-Gep would deliver MO
It would also make us much stronger in MI, WV, OH and even in Arkansas.

It makes good strategic sense.

9. Sorry felas - Gephardt lost me with his unflaterring support of *
in the buildup to the Iraq war. There is nothing whatsoever that he can do now to amend for that. Besides, his leadership of the Democrats in the House leaves a whole lot to be desired and clearly illustrates that his style of leadership will be too tepid for my taste.
