Early March Hillary referenced RFK Assassination to Time Magazine
Edited on Fri May-23-08 05:49 PM by RamboLiberal
Though she has now apologized for that very strange and tasteless comment to the Argus-Leader, this was not the first time she's said it. This from her interview with TIME Managing Editor Richard Stengel, published March 6:

TIME: Can you envision a point at which--if the race stays this close--Democratic Party elders would step in and say, "This is now hurting the party and whoever will be the nominee in the fall"?

CLINTON: No, I really can't. I think people have short memories. Primary contests used to last a lot longer. We all remember the great tragedy of Bobby Kennedy being assassinated in June in L.A. My husband didn't wrap up the nomination in 1992 until June. Having a primary contest go through June is nothing particularly unusual.

Her excuse now is that the Kennedys have been "much on my mind these days" with the illness of Senator Edward Kennedy, but that doesn't explain what brought it to mind more than two months ago.

NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli notes that Clinton said something similar the day after the Indiana and North Carolina primaries. "Sometimes you gotta calm people down a little bit. But if you look at successful presidential campaigns, my husband did not get the nomination until June of 1992," she said. "I remember tragically when Senator Kennedy won California near the end of that process."

In fact, the specter of assassination was first raised in this campaign on January 8, when a Clinton introducer, a retired teacher from New Hampshire, brought it up before Clinton spoke. "If you look back, some people have been comparing one of the other candidates to JFK, and he was a wonderful leader. He gave us a lot of hope," the retired teacher said. "But he was assassinated, and Lyndon Baines Johnson actually did all of his work and got both the Republicans and Democrats to pass those measures."

Thank you.

6. The Only Thing Orchestrated Is the Obama-fan Outrage
And I hope you all drive everyone in the country to go look at those interviews where she points out how utterly bizarre it is that Obama's people are and have been trying to push her into dropping out as far back as January.

8. So Batboy, you really can't fathom why we might be legitimately upset over the comment?
I guess you Hill supporters would all be laughing it off right now if Obama made similar comments about Hillary?

10. Don't Be Silly. Of Course I Can
I'd be pissed too, if someone was getting points off on my candidate. In fact, I have been. Now it's just y'all's turn to deal with it.

4. There's that pattern again .....
same thing as 'Sniper-gate' ..... she was sleep deprived, mis-spoke only once .... yeah right. And now this appalling statement today. Again she's just tired with Ted Kennedy on her mind .... yeah right .. seems she's used this RFK assassination comment along the campaign trail before just like 'Sniper-gate' more than once .... She needs to step down, end her presidential bid. It's truly over for her. Peace.

9. Life is funny. Remember, she got away with the sniper lies on several occassions
before someone finally called her lying ass out.

I guess this is just another situation where one of her disgusting lies/memes were uttered one too many times.

14. There were complaints before; we were told we were being oversensitive.
We gave her the benefit of the doubt the first time and let it drop. She chose to dig it up, again.

13. Time Magazine added this link to NYT Article from March 20, 1992
THE 1992 CAMPAIGN: Primaries; TSONGAS ABANDONS CAMPAIGN, LEAVING CLINTON A CLEAR PATH TOWARD SHOWDOWN WITH BUSH

Former Senator Paul E. Tsongas of Massachusetts withdrew from the race for the Democratic Presidential nomination today, a decision that many in his party said all but insured the selection of Gov. Bill Clinton of Arkansas.

Mr. Tsongas announced his departure at a news conference in Boston, where he said his campaign did not have enough money to continue. His move leaves only former Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. of California to compete with Mr. Clinton in the remaining primaries and caucuses in 21 states.

Without adequate money to win, Mr. Tsongas said, "the alternative was to play the role of spoiler." 'That Is Not Worthy'

"That is not what I'm about," he continued. "That is not worthy. I did not survive my ordeals in order to be the agent of the re-election of George Bush."

16. Mentioning the '84 and '80 primaries would have strengthened her "June" argument.
Edited on Fri May-23-08 06:22 PM by Kristi1696
If indeed that was the argument she was attempting to make. Wouldn't mentioning '92, '84, '80, '68 make a strong argument in that regard?

So why only '92 and '68? And why always mention the assassination in '68 if it's only the month you're getting after?

My take: she clearly doesn't want Obama assassinated, but she's more than willing to use the concern of him being assassinated when she needs to freeze the superdelegates.

She got away with it the first two times, but three was asking a bit much.

She was playing with fire and got burned. That's how these things go.
