Poll question: A political analogy quiz. |
|
:7
Say you hit your little brother; no provocation other than that he bothered you. Popped him in the jaw, and he fell, sprawling onto the ground, scuffing his elbows. He stands up, crying, then runs home to tell your parents what you did.
At home your mom and dad corner you in the kitchen, angry at you for harming your little brother.
Do you say:
* Later I'll explain this poll.

1. Will the explanation be a response in this thread, or a new thread entirely? |

8. I am assuming a basis for this analogy |
|
Is that I am like 5 years old again, so yeah maybe that is my answer. The maturity I have now that would prevent me from doing this is the same maturity that would stop me from hitting my little brother in the first place.

I would never hit him again. Instead, I would convince surrogates and friends of mine to not only beat him up daily, they would also tell, to whomever would listen, embarrassing (and usually untrue) stories about his past.

7. Answer: Physical violence takes this seemingly simple situation to a higher level. |

If you want to equate it to the MI and FL debacle, you would have to have the older brother do something irritating back at the younger brother, but which did not involve physical violence.
Also, if you want to equate it to the MI & FL debacle, you would have to have a situation where the older brother is the rule-maker and authority (such as a parent), and the child broke the rules and punished him, as he said he would (not physical violence, though).
This situation involves a kid who uses physical violence as a defense to being irritated by a younger kid. Physical violence is never justified as a defense to words, even if the kids are the same age, or even if the people are adults. It is ESPECIALLY true if an older child hits a younger child. No explanation will justify the violence. Punishment is required. Apology? Maybe, maybe not. The point is to teach the older child that physical violence is not the answer. The older child is in danger of becoming increasingly or dangerously violent as he gets older.

9. If this analogy resembled anything current... |

It might be relevant. It doesn't, and it isn't.

12. Is this analogy supposed to be about the candidates or about GD/P? |
|
In any event, I don't see any meaningful analogy. The mods and admins aren't your Mommy and Daddy, though they can intervene if a post is a flagrant rule violation. At any rate, in this instance, you really can get out of the kitchen if you can't take the heat.

I think the analogy needs to be fitted for a more mature (older) audience. Most people here (with a few exceptions) do not hit their little brother and then get cornered by their parents in the kitchen.
Maybe if you used lots of diagrams and some music...?
