Can someone point me to a thread that explains just what the hell happened today? |
|
I was at work when the decision went down and I'd like a sane and cogent recap of what happened. I don't know where to start when slogging through all the stuff here.
Is there post where I can start?

1. HuffPo, ThePage & Ben Smith at Politico all have summaries. |
|
New number 2118, Obama 66 delegates away.
69-59 split with 1/2 votes for MI FL half votes.

5. Maybe you can clarify one thing for me? |
|
In MI, it's a 69-59 split. That is 128 Delegates. Is the 1/2 vote including those 128 or is it after that? Or is it ALL MI Delegates are 1/2 vote, and 128 is only part of them?

Hill gets 69 delegates, Obama 59. Each delegate's vote is worth .5 (or half), but the entire delegation will be seated, and candidates get a say in the selection.

8. It's half.that, 29.5 for Obama, 34.5 for Hillary |
|
That's the pledged delegates. Super-delegates will also count at 1/2.

So, Obama gets 2.5 from MI supers: Rep. John Conyers (MI)* DNC Lauren Wolfe (MI)* DNC Robert Ficano (MI)* DNC Eric Coleman (MI)* DNC Virgie Rollins (MI)*
Hillary gets 3,5 from MI supers: Gov. Jennifer Granholm (MI)* Hon. John Cherry (MI)* Sen. Debbie Stabenow (MI)* Rep. Sander Levin (MI)* DNC Joel Ferguson (MI)* Rep. Dale Kildee (MI)* Rep. John Dingell (MI)*
And 15(or7.5) MI supers still undeclared.

3. How much detail do you want? |
|
They talked. They voted on whether or not to restore Florida 100%. It failed, 12/16. They voted on whether to restore Florida at 50%. That passed 27/0. They then Voted on whether to accept the Michigan Democratic Party compromise(a 59/69 delegate split) at 50%. That passed with a smaller majority.

That's when votes took place.
From what I could gather, Fl's final vote took place first. They voted, first against re-instating all the delegates, and then unanimously for re-instating 100% of the vote at half vote for each delegate. They used the delegate count in FL, from the vote, and cut it in half.
MI. Ickes went to the mat, and threatened to take it to Denver. I believe the final decision split the delegates 69-59, Clinton-Obama, and then gave half vote for each additional delegate(sorry, I am trying to nail this down, too.)

It's been a long, tough night at the rock quarry. Brain dead here. Thanks!
