Poll question: How long should the ''cool down'' period be?
Edited on Sat May-31-08 11:17 PM by Aya Reiko
With Obama likely to secure the nom on either Tuesday or Wednesday, how long do you think the "cool down" period should be before the rule in GD:P becomes, essentially, unity or else.

Skinner presently says it will be one week. But with the presumptive nominee finally emerging in June (rather than March or April) and the sheer rancor some people have been posting, perhaps a shorter period may be in order.

Images of waiting forever on the results from the village of Dededo (Guam) are floating thru my head....and SD is in what time zone again??
Oh, crap...there are TWO time zones?? Is this right?

Eastern South Dakota is in the Central Time Zone

15. oh no, part Central part Mountain - people are going to go nuts
Remember Indiana, where people didn't know about multiple time zones and were coming up with extra conspiracy theories about votes being late near Chicago? :eyes:

4. Screw it. Let's go after McSame now. I'm tired of this crap. and treading lightly.
We have a country to take back. If you love George Bush, get out of my way. If you love Hillary, then get on board.

There's a train coming.

8. I think regardless of what any of us say in the poll
Skinner and the other mods are going to allow a week for people to vent. If I had to guess, the vent week starts sometime late this week and runs through the 13th or 14th when people have to decide if they are going to support the nominee or get ts'd. Some people are starting to come around already. Those who cause problems are going to be eating a tombstone.

23. Eating a tombstone?
Wow, that'll convince them to vote for Obama. :sarcasm:

These people aren't just 13-year-old trolls trying to disrupt a typical forum. They're voters, with human emotions that won't take kindly to that sort of treatment. Again, the party and the election are far more important than any individual OR message board. This board is supposed to be here to support the Democratic party; pissing people off at such a crucial moment in history is dangerously counterproductive.

27. Why do you think the current plan is to give them a week to cry and vent (within limits)?
If someone can't accept Hillary lost, maybe this place isn't for them.

Maybe they aren't 13-year-old trolls, but some are certainly been acting like one.

32. As Ayo said
You either accept the rules as they are or leave. The mods have stated once the primary is over and a week passes, those who don't support the nominee are gone. If we are truly suppose to be adults, then follow the rules.

26. Obama has zero
Hillary and Obama have the exact same number of delegate votes - zero.

No votes are cast before Denver. None, nada, zilch, zippo.

Any count you see before then is just an estimate.

Even the "pledged" delegates can change their minds.

Hillary can take this all the way to Denver if she wants.

16. A week- STARTING LAST FRIDAY. So if she gives it up on Wed, they'll have a few...
..days, Thursday, 24 hours. If she waits till Friday, within the hour.

If she's still in it Saturday morning I hope he reconsiders his position to call it for Obama. I appreciate his position but we need to get this thing together quickly.

21. Should be longer than a week
Emotions are high b/c HRC has been jerking people around for so long in her own quest for power, and I don't think emotions like that can die down in just a week.

If the situation were reversed, I sure wouldn't want to be treated that way. Unity is achieved by reaching out to the defeated ones, not by issuing "Unity or else!" threats. We are Democrats; by nature, we disagree--sometimes heatedly. Trying to force people to walk in lockstep is a Republican tactic, and it won't help heal the wounds.

29. Not long.
I didn't like it, don't get me wrong. But I was behind Kerry when it became clear he was the nominee. the only anger I had was at conservative radio outlets for characterizing his Iowa speech as unhinged, etc.

Since Skinner wants it to be a week, and since he is the only one whose say matters, I'll agree with him. That seems fair.
