23. Why don't we just get to work? |
|
Paranoia and back biting will get us no where.
Democrats are famous for falling on their swords.
I would hope that we would all just get to work and cut down on the useless blabber.

I remember a few times in the past reading outrageous posts saying they want Bush to win so that it will get so bad and then America will learn a lesson or some nonsense.
And another one was that Bush should have to clean up his own mess and Kerry will only last one term because he will inherit the bad economy and Iraq situation from Bush.
This is upside-down logic and just plain dumb.

I think there is a great deal of cynicism inherent in the DU-ites and with good reason.
Many on here loathe the idea that our guys sit back and take a verbal beating. For almost 15 years now AM radio has been in operation to tell the world just how anti-American, evil, communist we are.
We want to fight back.
We watch as the plunder of Selection 2000 is whisked under the rug with a media unwilling to dig under the piles of dead bodies. We see our candidates in 2002, may of which were centrist politicians, aligned with Sadam Hussein, called names, and then defeated at the polls by an ever ignorant voting public.
We see the same thing happening here. We get frustrated if Bush makes ANY headway in the polls even if Kerry still leads. We “smell” the potential of a close election once again being stolen. Democrats are at their frayed ends of sanity in concern of the integrity of American Democracy.
We see billions flow into the Bush junta, laws re-written in secret to benefit a chosen few and the media spends time “analyzing” John Kerry’s wife.
We see the inane amount of time devoted to the service of John Kerry. Even if Kerry’s credibility in the end is proven to be beyond reproach, the GOP and their media lapdogs have done “enough” to spirit at least a few voters to either vote Bush or stay home out of the idea that “they are all liars.”
We watch a rousing Democratic National Convention. Though a little heavy on jingoism, still a clear admission that our party is united, ready to battle, and qualified to lead this nation. Upon each wonderful speech and testament of hope, the media parade immediately does a slash-and-burn on each of our speakers. Even the hideous Ralph Reed was trotted out to “analyze” the DNC.
We see Bush go negative in the first part of the year 70% of the time to Kerry’s 30% of the time (by factual analysis) and even a hint of “negativity” by Kerry is soundly responded to with derision. Meanwhile, the “negative” attacks by Bush are subtlety placed into the media chamber as legitimate news.
It is fucking bullshit and Democrats are tired of it.
We are tired of playing this game on an uneven playing field with the officials, rules, and govern ship of the game so weighted to the right. I think overall, our gang in here is optimistic. I am optimistic. I honestly do not see G.W.Bush winning this election. I have never been wrong before in any of my predictions. There is a “feel” about an election. Admittedly, that can change, but most Democrats and I feel awesome about sweeping out these hypocritical zealots whose fantastical images of a corporate empire will be soundly and swiftly dethroned.
Still, in an America where money buys power we are still decidedly pessimistic. November 3 I trust that will be over.

indicate sour grapes to me at all. They are a warning from someone with a sense of history and knowledge of what has been done to our party in the past. Why are some Dems so reluctant to learn from the recent past?

just as much as anyone else on this board, if not more. I will be in crisis mode if he loses. That does not mean that I have to be a Stepford DUer.

Ever get the feeling that a deserter and his minions have gotten away with smearing someone who showed remarkable courage on the battlefield? I don't rememeber the Dukakis campaign but I gues this is what it was like. Nothing exists in a vacuum. Either the SBL's attack is working or it isn't. Some of us have had the temerity to say that it is.

14. Gonna have to disagree, I think they want to win |
|
but the differance is how they want to win, I am not that worried honest though, as a guy who is better as a closer than a starter Kerry is doing fine, so what looks like a close race now could end up being a landslide Kerry victory or at least a victory by a good margin.

I think the people who will not vote for Kerry on DU is actually pretty small. I know some people voice disappointment with his campaign, but they usually say they will vote for him. Look, not everybody can be "rah-rah" for every candidate. There are varying levels of enthusiasm. When Kerry first emerged as our nominee I would say my enthusiasm level was at about 2 out of 10--ten being most enthusiastic. Today I would say I'm up to 5. I think by and large most of the posters here are pretty positive about the campaign. The few that aren't really shouldn't upset people--a few even have some interesting suggestions--which on a discussion board should not be stifled or told to 'keep quiet until after the election". The tiny minority who actually go against the rules established on DU in regards to after the candidate is officially nominated are usually deleted pretty quickly.

20. I guess I'll put my two cents in. The sense that I am getting is that |
|
everyone must play along...whether at checkers, or other games, or else. It's very sad that this party, at times, is evolving into something that doesn't represent what it is that's important to me. And when one gives money and time to a campaign that can be a little disconcerting and downright mystifying. That they supposedly don't really care to hear what I think makes me wonder a lot of things. And don't get me started on some of the dogpiling.

22. Under Bush in 4 Years We Could All Be Dead (or broke) |
|
I want Kerry to win and I'm sick of seeing Bush making gains.
Four more years of Bush and none of us might be alive.
As a physician, I am concerned about the obvious paranoia. Suggest that you either get help or get out of the way.
If you put 1/10th as much effort into reaching the grassroots with the Kerry-Edwards message as you do with senseless chatter, we might actually win.

I just think that:
A. This is a messageboard. That brings out the pundits in all of us. That happens on any subject, on any messageboard.
B. People have been very frustrated with campaigns in the past and I think that's totally understandable. Some past Democratic campaigns were borderline pathetic. I think that's even true of Gore. It's amazing he won the election.
C. This isn't a normal election. I think that a lot of people here are very aware that the person occupying the Oval office is dangerous to everything we value. He's already done so much damage and he is poised to wreck havoc on the nation and the world. That's a lot of pressure. We're testy.
D. There's only so much we can really do. There's campaigning, volunteering and donating, and it doesn't seem like nearly enough with so much at stake..
Don't get me wrong. I think that probably at least 75% of the criticism of the campaign is wrong and the rest is just a different point of view. I really think that they know what they're doing and what they're up against. I just think it's not too hard to understand that people are afraid to assume that, and OTOH it's not hard to understand getting impatient with those people.
And of course, there are a few in every crowd who just like to be douchebags, to use one of John Stewart's favorite phrases.
