12. It's called 'electoral fraud' - when a candidate does not have legitimate
signatures to get the minimum needed to get on the ballot and gets fake and fraudulant signatures to make up that minimum.

It was not HE who was doing the wrong thing. It was the other guy.

19. Rules are undemocratic because they disenfranchise people running against Obama.
Don't you get it? }( ;-) }(

29. Let's see, what is the problem with not being signed in cursive -
when the petition REQUIRES the signature to be in cursive, accompanied by the printed name, so that the petition signature can be compared to the signatures ON FILE with the board of elections, proving that the signature is legitimate?

BTW, signing another person's name is FORGERY.

33. Well if that was a rule set up by the committee to be considered
a legitimate signature, then they should have explained that to people who signed the petition
Also I am sure Obama's signatures were held to the same scrutiny and passed.

but once again SHAME ON YOU BARACK OBAMA
How dare you use the rules of the committee to get the upper hand on an opponent

15. If Chicago politics are as corrupt as they say
Edited on Sun Jun-01-08 02:05 AM by bhikkhu
One who plays by the rules is what was needed. Drawing lines about what is "corrupt enough" is what is ridiculous.

on edit - as he both played by the rules and won, and his community voter registration drives increased the party's strength and involvement, how is this not the description of a model candidate for our party, and for this election?

28. Exactly what it was
Alice Palmer said she wasn't going to want her seat back if she lost the Congressional race. She changed her mind and expected Obama to step aside. When he didn't, she gathered up a bunch of signatures and of course they had to be challenged. Since you can't challenge one without challenging them all, Obama challenged them all and none of them had a legal petition.

So, if by "technicality" you mean convincing metrics, then yes..that's how he won.

6. Since when was shrewd politics considered a liability?
To hear politicians complain about tough competition is laughable, as if the nature of campaigning wasn't known before they started. They've got a lot to learn from Obama - who has taken some of the hardest lumps in this campaign. He handled all criticisms pointed at him with class and never lost his focus.

When did Obama complain that Hillary was too shrewd an opponent? Or are we giving Obama "credit" for other people's words again?

37. They obviously don't understand Chicago politics
That's the way things work there.

I, for one, welcome some fighters for a change. I was disgusted at how Kerry wimped out in '04, and the likes of Mondale, Dukakis, et al. before him. When you need a guard dog, you go out and get a pit bull, not a poodle.

And CNN's piece doesn't tell the whole story.

38. they show at least two people making that point
John Kass and some other person both say this is how it works in Chicago.

The piece is just a few minutes long, so of course they can't tell the whole story, but they covered "that's how things work here" thoroughly.

39. Yeah, I've seen the CNN piece a few times
And saw the interview with David Axelrod afterward last night. He filled in a few blanks that they glossed over.

CNN was right to do the piece, but it seemed tainted with quite a bit of smarm, which is typical of the media.

Face it, Hillary can't even play aggressive politics well. She ran a terrible, debt-ridden campaign, and people saw her for what she was - shallow and power-hungry.
