Obama marches w/900 supporters, crowd chants no more Bush, Keyes no show!
I just got back from the 75th Annual Bud Billiken parade. It was fantastic. I marched with the Kerry group and we were right behind the Obama group. There were about 50 Kerry supporters but 900 Obama supporters. Alan Keyes was supposed to participate, a Kerry supporter handed him a Kerry fan at the breakfast, but no one I talked to saw him on the parade route. This is Chicago's biggest parade, last year 1.2 million people attended. In addition to Obama's overwhelming presence, the Kerry group was greeted with chants of "NO MORE BUSH" throughout the parade route. So it would not be outrageous to say "Crowd of 1.2 million people chant 'No More Bush!' during Bud Billiken Parade."

A little Kerry/Obama synergy

Danny Davis leads the crowd in chants of no more Bush!

And the crowd responds

9. Neat
I like Obama because he can speak to people about complex issues in easy terms they can understand.

You will be blessed to have him as Senator.

Please help me here - who's Bud Billiken, what's this parade all about.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance - I'm from New Jersey.

16. The Bud Billiken parade is a back to school parade sponsored by. . .
. . .the Chicago Defender (the nations oldest Black newspaper). Bud Billiken is a mythical character. It is one of the oldest and largest parades.

15. Is there any reason

We are even having this election? Other than the spirit of Democracy....Mr Obama is the next Senator from the Great State of Illinois.

What a wonderful representative. Now if we could just get Alan Page to get a Senate seat from Minnesota, although he may have judicial aspirations in mind.

17. Saw this at the blog about Keyes and his supporters. Interesting.
"Obama's contingent in the parade stretched about a block and a half long, as Barak led a group of at least 500 school kids. The crowd cheered. Signs were waved. It was great.

As I mentioned it is a very long parade, so I left after about two hours. As I was leaving, I spotted the Keyes group. They were at the back .....of the parade. He had three or four expensive cars and maybe 15 supporters, one of whom glowered at me as I walked by carrying my Obama sign. It was a fun and uplifting day."

Not my post, just saw it there. 4 expensive cars and just a few supporters.

26. TV coverage cut off just as Keyes approached.
Obama's group was impressive. Seeing all of the Obama and Kerry signs in the crowd I had hoped to catch reaction, will have to watch the news later.

That seems to be the standard response to Keyes except among the other nutjobs.

The Dems haven't had a showing there in my memory. Hastert has a tent every year. We need some of those fans to hand out.

. . .$$$ coming into Illinois is going to be sparse, but there is some talk about trying to get raise some local $$$ to pay for that type of stuff.

36. Yeah it looks like we're taken for granted again.
That's to be expected so we keep feeding the grassroots. We'll have to look at things and their cost, we're sharing with a couple of neighboring counties. Here are a couple of links you might look at.

37. I know, but it looks like the grassroots will get some support. . .
. . .not as much as we would like, but more than we might expect given the fact the Illinois is a blue state. We will however have to be creative.
