How's your Empathy doing?
Obama strikes me as someone with fairly high emotional intelligence.
What's your EQ?
Take this EQ test from Baron Cohen:

But I did see question 18. When I was a child, I enjoyed cutting up worms to see what would happen. - I still can't stand the thought of stepping on the things when they're on the sidewalk after it rains.

3. I did OK
Your score: 72
0 - 32 = low (most people with Asperger Syndrome or high-functioning autism score about 20)
33 - 52 = average (most women score about 47 and most men score about 42)
53 - 63 is above average
64 - 80 is very high
80 is maximum

5. Although strong EQ
is useful I don't think it is a simple hierarchy.

We need the lower EQ people too. They keep the trains running on schedule.(That's a bad example but i hope you get my drift.)
72 is an extremely high score. With a score like that you should be able to read minds and hearts through the computer screen!

6. I do agree with you, all people fit into the whole
some of us are born more sensitive and some are naturally just left brained. All of us are needed to help to bring balance.

I find it quite interesting that we are asking for change and Obama comes in. We have a better chance to balance the opposite paradigm now.

14. That just means you use another modality.
We have all kinds of things going on in these brains.

I was at a teacher's seminar and they put a big pie chart up on the overhead projector screen. It was divided into about 8 different ways to learn, which also translate into 8 different ways to interact with your environment. This one quiz only seems to test for one of those. :)

40. It's a separate take
than Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences. But like all such thing - needs to be taken with a shovel of salt.

And truth is - we need all sorts of people in the world. However - those with high EQ will have an easier time in politics.

Air traffic controllers not so much.

Israeli researchers discover gene for altruism
By David Brinn
January 23, 2005

Why are some people more prone to give charity or put themselves in danger in order to help others?

A team of Israeli psychologists claim they have the answer - they've located the first gene linked to altruistic behavior.

According to a study conducted by Prof. Richard Ebstein and colleagues at the Hebrew University and Herzog Memorial Hospital in Jerusalem, a link exists between people who appear selfless and seek to help others, and a gene variant on chromosome No. 11.

Volunteers who filled out a questionnaire exhibiting these traits then had DNA samples taken where the gene variant was discovered - which boosts receptors for the neurotransmitter dopamine, giving the brain a good feeling.
The study appears in the online edition of the journal Molecular Psychiatry.

While I greatly admire very empathetic people, I no longer have the patience with others that I used to. This result, therefore, is not very surprising.

29. Your spread is similar to mine but I can't find left unless
I put my right hand over my heart, so there goes the whole spatial thing.

It's funny, too, because I do spatial much better when I just do it physically -- like rearranging the contents of a drawer. If I "think" about it, I get lost and need to call the fire department to rescue me. :)

32. I was a bit disappointed at the Kinesthetic ...
... since I adore many kinds of physical activity. HOWEVER, at the age of 65 with congenital scoliosis that's resulted in chronic sciatica for the lat 15-20 years, I'm a bit limited in what activities I can pursue, particularly back in Michigan. On the west coast, I was able to scuba dive, swim, hike, bungee-jump, and do white-water rafting. Here, the various available activities aren't good for my back. (sigh) The questions had a slight bias to them that related to my current circumstance rather than history. Oh well.

In terms of "Spatial" ... I rarely take the time to 'organize' things. (A clean desk is a symptom of a sick mind.) I just tend to 'know' where things are. I was always very good at drafting, geometry, and analytical geometry. Newtonian physics was a breeze. When I traveled on business, I was VERY frequently in strange cities and towns. I NEVER get lost. Never. For some strange reason, I can just 'sense' the layout and find my way only rarely making any wrong turns. I explained it to others as my "pigeon brain." I'm very comfortable in new cities, U.S. or foreign. Conversely, in the Boy Scouts and Army, I was terrible at "orienteering." But good at navigation at the USCGA. Go figure.

The Linguistic was sort of expected, but my elementary-school music teacher would be shocked to see my Musical score. Then again, she was trying to teach the flute to a kid with a massive overbite... LOL.
