Enough.
I was a Democratic Party activist when Robert Kennedy and Dr. King were shot and I remember feeling numb and sickened. Recently, Senator Clinton used Robert Kennedy`s assassination for the third time in an attempt to insert fear and doubt into the minds of any malleable voters. It was a very dark but very telling moment in this campaign. Almost as bad was the endless charge of sexism. Not for Hillary? You`re sexist. Not for Hillary? You want to run her out of the campaign just because she`s a woman. Really?

Here`s where I stand...I`m a mid-60`s woman who worked for, marched for, fought for women`s rights. I`m no sexist. Period. My reason for supporting Obama has nothing, N-O-T-H-I-N-G to do with Hillary Clinton. I`m for Obama because of his position against the invasion and occupation of Iraq and because he will help bring chnge. Real change.

As far as I`m concerned, this is a cleansing election for the country and our party. We get to toss Bush`s worthless ass out of the White House and replace him with someone with a conscience. We have the opportunity to reset the agenda to include all those people the Republicans ignored, degraded and demoralized. We can bring our troops home and develop a good energy policy, work toward health care for all and increase help for drug addicts. We can slam Gitmo shut and ground all the torture planes, build some new bridges and lower the burden of college loans. We can honor Native Americans and extend a hand to Muslims, give hope to the kid trapped in the projects and renew the spirit of children in Appalachia. We can return to New Orleans with hammers and show up in the Midwest with new business ideas. What we can`t have is more of the same people doing the same things in the same way.

I`m going to try to turn my attention to Barack Obama and do everyting I can to send this principled man, his uplifting wife and his two precious children to the White House.

1. well said- there is a real distinction to be made about being FOR
a particular candidate because that candidate best represents our vision for the future, VERSUS voting for a candidate who runs on the platform of "my opponent isn't electable"-

I am voting for Obama because he is the president this nation desperately needs. We are being given an opportunity to begin turning our country around, led by a man who desires to bring out the best in all of us. It's time to stop the selfishness.

peace~

7. according to what? "Polls"?
I'm sick of people putting so much credibility in "polling"-

I'm sick of the way the American people are being segregated by race/age/wealth/poverty/education/religion etc, and told what "we" believe based on a "poll"-

Pardon be for ranting in this thread- but I say screw the damn "polls"-

What is their value? except to 'sway' public opinion?? what have they ever really accomplished for anyone?

peace~

46. I'll repost this!
The night or two, Before supertues. I got a call from AP ipsos polls ( canadian exchange). They asked if I was a female between 18 & 65....when I said I was 68, They thanked me & hung up. SO much for getting the opinion of old white ladies!
I and all my friends over 60 here, are supporting Obama!

I can't justify Clinton's vote AGAINST overturning the cluster bomb ban! What good does it do if she supports health care for American children, and allows Lebanese, Iraqi & Afghani children to get their limbs blown off in their family's orchard?
Most other countries have now voted to ban the use of cluster bombs. NOT the good ole' USA!

The ladies from SI that helped get him on the ballet in Illinois were in their 70s and 80s. My sisters are 65 and 71, and their husbands are 68 and 72. Yeah, all the old women are sure for Hillary. My one sister was going to vote for McCain over Hillary and we informed her about Barack and she voted for him in the primary. Ignorance/unimformedness sometimes scares me. :grr:

and I think I have a lot of company in this demographic. I won't vote for someone because she has 2 X chromosomes. What this world needs is to insert more of the "feminine principal" and values into the public square. Obama represents that much better than HRC.

15. Error: You've already recommended that thread.
Someone will have to pick up the slack.

My support for Obama is twofold;

One; He's a great candidate with great promise.

Two; Clinton was a poor candidate. That is the extent to which she factored in.

If she were a better candidate and didn't resort to the dirty tactics, It would not have been so easy a choice.

I've been pro-Obama for at least a year. All the times Hillary has insulted those of us who support him, calling us cultists, naive, and sexist, while pandering to white racists, gun nuts, and warhawks, I've come to really, really hate Clinton.

Thanks for reminding us why we began to support Obama before Hillary lost her marbles. He's a good man. He's against the war, for education, for ordinary working folks of any color, and all that good stuff we've always believed, as Americans and as Democrats.

57. Something you should remember abou FDR
Eleanor was always pushing him to do more New Deal programs. He would always answer that he had political problems with that right now, and that if she wanted to get it done she'd have to just tell her friends to get organized and MAKE him do it.

Another reason for backing Obama is that he is asking people to stay involved. This is important. Karatekas are advised to focus THROUGH the board if they want to break it. Likewise, we need to be thinking passt the election in order to get anything done.

63. Amen, amen, amen!
After my favorite candidate, John Edwards, left the race, I initially decided to support Hillary. I'm 56, white, a dedicated feminist. My grandmother was a suffragette in Estonia, and my mother belonged to NOW, so feminism is my family heritage.

But the more I learned about Obama, the more excited I got about his vision and leadership ability.

At the same time, the behavior of Hillary and her supporters made me think less and less of them, to the point where I am today.

Her corporatistic stances and her mean-minded campaign have left me utterly disgusted. I once owned a Hillary Clinton Fan Club button and was an avid supporter of hers. But the more I've learned, the less I've liked.

As far as I'm concerned, it is Hillary, and Hillary alone, who has cost herself the Democratic nomination. I lost respect for her when she voted in favor of the Iraq war. I wouldn't vote for her for dog-catcher.

64. At some point
You get tired of the non-issues, lies and stupidity ruling the day: William Ayers is Obama's best friend, Obama and Qaddafi planed the PANAM flight 103 bombing. Obama is a white hating, fist raising, Black Panther. He's retarded and clearly unqualified. His wife is an America hating Jihadist. He's run a sexist campaign like some kind of Bi-racial Archie Bunker. He's lived an elitist, charmed life of ease where his father and grandfather did everything for him (including getting him into Harvard)Exaggeration, sure. But when listening to some of the Hillary supporters, (and Freepers pretending to be) That's what they sound like. After 8 years of Bush, a lot of people are talking and acting like him.
