Let's not forget, folks, Florida and Michigan were offered the chance to fix things. |
|
The DNC offered to pay for caucuses, or contribute $1 million each toward the cost of a new primary, but the local parties didn't want to do either of those things. They CHOSE not to redo their balloting within the party rules, instead trying to fight with the DNC to get the rules bent for them.

Here in Michigan there was a recognition that some Dems voted in the Republican primary since they'd been told that the Democratic primary wouldn't count. So no one can vote in both primaries which meant there would have to be a mechanism to ensure that people who had voted in the R primary didn't come back and vote in the Dem re-do primary. Just one of the issues that couldn't be resolved before our legislature went out for spring break.

2. So, what's your point? They managed to stay in the lime light for the whole primary season by ... |
|
breaking the rules and then cry that they are being cheated.

The Dems didn't "go along" with it. The bill was introduced by a Dem, cheered by Dems, voted on by Dems and then, just before the vote, Steve Geller got up (the man who introduced the bill, I believe) and made a smarmy little half protest and said ON TAPE that the fake protest was so that they could show the DNC that they tried to stop it.
Progressives, true liberals, do have little to say in Florida Politics and lots of Dems became Dems in 2006 because they knew they couldn't win as Republicans. That is, of course, part of the problem. What Democrats we do have in the government, including our party Chairwoman, Karen Thurman, are really just DINO.

12. I'm not sure how a bill could be passing anyway |

if a Democrat is the one that INTRODUCED it. The Democrats in our state government are NOT innocent of this. Many of them are Republicans who switched to Democrat to get elected in 2006.
Sorry, no. The Democrats in our state government did this to us. It's time to stop playing pass the buck and get them out of there. We need to get real Democrats in the state house, not Dems in name only who are looking out for the Republican agenda.

13. the republicans were going to change the primary date. |
|
everyone knew it. a few dems jumped in front and introduced their own version of the bill.
we need to get a majority of democrat (there are already a number of real ones) in the state leg. even with that there are still some dixiecrats in there who play better with repubs.

14. Well, I disagree with you |
|
We need to get REAL Democrats in there, not just a majority of people who have a D after their names. Watch the video of the smarmy jerk, Steve Geller. Sorry, but these people are NOT innocent.
And with people saying what you are saying, it won't change. You want to make them the victims when they aren't. If you don't stand up and fight for real change, then you are really part of the problem.

4. Except The Caucus Would Cost $8 Million |
|
sure, the DNC was offering a million, but that was only a fraction of what a caucus or new primary would have cost here.
I am perfectly content with the compromise where our delegate count (but not number of delegates) is halved. It seems like they found a way to impose an identical penalty as the Republican party.
It's kind of a shame they didn't just do this from the beginning, but it was all a game of chicken.

7. Way I heard it, caucuses would have been $970k. |
|
It's true the DNC wouldn't pay the full $17M for a new primary, but they do after all have better things to spend that money on, like downticket races.

this Primary Season to go past Feb 5. And the brou-ha-ha did not occur until well after the fact. It's amazing how much of a frenzy can be worked up after the time is past to do anything about anything. In the meantime conflating what happened in Florida and Michigan as 'counting votes' dilutes the argument for accuracy in the vote tabulating of our voting systems. Those votes were counted, they just didn't count. I expect we will see the same thing in November when some people's votes are not counted. Lots of noise after it is too late to do anything. And they too will be responsible..just like Florida and Michigan.
