When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well theyd be singing so happily,
Joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
Logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
Clinical, intellectual, cynical.

There are times when all the worlds asleep,
The questions run too deep
For such a simple man.
Wont you please, please tell me what weve learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am.

Now watch what you say or theyll be calling you a radical,
Liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Wont you sign up your name, wed like to feel youre
Acceptable, respecable, presentable, a vegtable!

At night, when all the worlds asleep,
The questions run so deep
For such a simple man.
Wont you please, please tell me what weve learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am.

9. Thanks. I don't believe I have ever heard a song of theirs (his?).

I do not recall ever hearing any of their music, but I remember the name.

It has been almost 40 years since I have listened to commercial radio.

If I don't play it myself or hear it live from someone else, I don't listen to music pretty much at all anymore.

As a matter of fact, I heard this interesting CD at a party last weekend. I asked my friend who it was and she said, "Why, that's Sting, dumbass".

I had never heard his voice before.

8. Supertramp's "Breakfast in America"-my favorite album of all time-
It will be played at my funeral because that album has become a part of who I am (grew up with it)! Every song on there rocks. "Lord is it Mine" is one of my favorites but right now all I have is Oh Darlin' in my head. Thanks!

11. There was a great parody of this song...

"The Topical Song" by The Barron Knights, about the gas crisis. It peaked at #70 on the US Hot 100 chart in 1979. Nearly twenty years later, everything old is new again, and it's once again becoming topical, I'm sure much to the Barron Knights' surprise. I just found it in my mp3 jukebox the other day... well worth a listen. :)
