Hillary's Real Work Is About To Begin |
|
It seems to me that she has only one option and that is an option that is supported by most of her logical supporters, which is to support the candidate and move on. I have heard it from many of her talking heads who at the time were annoying but when pressed agreed that the party would be unified and they would support Obama.
The fringe whack-jobs of her base which I dont believe is her core supporters, are living in a fantasy world if they think she will take this to the convention or if they think that she will not support Barack Obama. Not only would she fragment the party but she would doom her political career. Far more people want to move on then to continue to make this an issue. It would be a losing move.
I have no doubt that she is hurting and that it will be hard at first for her to come out in support of Barack Obama. But her real work will convincing the fringe of her supporters that claim that they will vote for McCain come November. If she really believes in all the causes she has fought for for years, which I have no doubt that she does, then there is no way she will condone the thought or talk of voting for McCain in November because again she will doom all that she has worked for for years.
In the end she will have to work as hard bringing the party together as much as she has contributed to fragmenting it to whatever degree that is. (I'm not saying she is solely responsible for fragmenting the party, but she does bear some responsibility for her words and actions just as everyone does.)
So I think what I am looking forward to and what I am curious about is what she will do in terms of the healing and the coming together. We saw yesterday in the RBC the Clinton supporter who motioned for the full Florida delegation to receive a full vote voice her sadness that it didnt pass but then made a comment to one of the crowd members that "If you believe in Democracy then you will respect this decision" (something like that). I found that pretty moving knowing how much she supports Hillary.
Hillary still has a big part to play in this election. I dont think its VP or a cabinet position but rather one of rallying her supporters to the cause. The cause being the democratic parties victory in November.

3. I doubt Hillary wants either job. She wouldn't want be Obama's VP, and I've never heard |
|
of a Senator leaving the Senate for HHS. Generally, only the big 4 are worth it (State, Defense, AG, Treasury).
The point to bringing these possibilities up are to "deny" them to her.
Hillary has no responsibility to repair the fragmented party, it is Barack who wants and needs her help. He will have to make concessions.
I think she wants a universal health care plank in the platform and I think she wants rules changes so that the nomination, in the future, isn't decided by caucus domination.

6. If you think she gives a shit about changing the rules after this that |
|
would really be a surprise...unless of course she plans on running in 2012..she was fine with it until she loss the caucuses and now it is a big deal...it was also fine when bill ran...

and how they conducted themselves - whether it be Hillary or Obama.
I can guarantee you 1000% that if the roles were reversed, Obama would have conceded by now.
On edit - and would be urging his very loyal supporters to back Clinton.

10. Have you read Obama's platform? |

The only appreciable difference on Healthcare is whether you require mandatory insurance or not.
She has a responsibility to all Democrats to help unite the party. If she actually cares about any of her supporters and their future she will help unite us.
