Obama calls to congratulate Hillary - seeks reconciliation - She is going to be "great asset" (VIDEO
Edited on Sun Jun-01-08 05:08 PM by jefferson_dem

Obama announces in Mitchell, South Dakota that he telephoned Clinton Sunday to congratulate her on winning the Puerto Rico primary.

Land of Lincolner then praises Clinton to crowd outside the Corn Palace for the race she has run and her public service.

“She is going to be a great asset when we go into November to make sure we beat the Republicans. That I promise you. Whatever differences Senator Clinton and I may have, those differences pale in comparison to the other side.”

1. He actually got to speak to her?
He had to leave a message the last time.

8. He said "just got off the phone with Senator Clinton" so I guess so.
He must've made it though the smarmy insulation of Wolfson, Ickes, and McAullife.

2. He needs to watch his back ...
because I strongly believe she would say or do anything to either cost Obama the nomination or the election, hoping to get into the White House this January, or worse case scenario (for HRC) Jan. 2013.

Call me paranoid, but that woman gives me the heebie-jeebies. The RFK comment was particularly startling ...

11. The RFK comment was particularly fictional. Just more hatred and hysteria from Obamamania (eom)

13. It wasn't fictional.
She said it. We heard it. No one liked it. She issued a crappy apology. The end.

But don't LIE and say it was fictional. We can rehash the video again if you like, but i'd prefer not.

19. Nope, she apologized to the Kennedys, not to Obama. Nor should she apologize to Obama
He is the one who owes her an apology for pushing that story. When he did that he made it extremely unlikely that I will ever vote for him. This was pure McCarthyism.

21. Obama didn't push the story.
She made a very open-ended comment about Bill campaigning in June of '92 and of course RFK was assasinated in June of '68. Puh-leez. She said what she meant and meant what she said.

23. The MEDIA and the PUBLIC found her comments to be controversial and in poor taste.
Obama did not "push" the story. They said they took Hillary at her word and wanted to move on!

You cannot be MAD at people for taking offense from your candidate's offensive remarks. If she didn't say such stupid, bat-crazy shit ALL THE FUCKING TIME, this wouldn't be an issue.

IT'S OVER.

24. Did WJC pardon you or something???
I cannot fathom how anyone could take the factual, well-documented events surrounding HRC's comments and somehow twist them into a NEGATIVE on Senator Obama.

You are certainly free to vote for McCain or stay home, but unless you're a corporate CEO or a major shareholder in Exxon or General Dynamics, I can't envision a scenario where a President McCain would be in your best interests.

Still scratching my head on this one...

16. I Don't Really Believe That
If Obama loses in November, his supporters will blame Hillary for poisoning the well and costing him the White House. While most voters have short memories, the activists don't. The media doesn't really like Hillary, they've never been fair to her and never will. Come 2012, they'll be sure to remind us how Hillary cost the Democrats the White House in '08.

Her best hope is to help Obama get elected and hold out for a cabinet position. The other option she has is to somehow influence him to pick a VP with no Presidential aspirations so she can run in 2016.

I don't think she really meant to suggest anything specific with the RFK comment, but it was very tacky. And it wasn't even an accurate comparison because the whole primary schedule has been moved up in the past 40 years.

20. He's trying to extend a hand to her - giving her an opening to concede and ...
...to call for unity. Smoothing the way for her to do it with dignity. The ball's in her court. He's done his part - he's done what a good leader should do. Question is, will Hillary do her part? I'm willing to wait till after Tuesday and I suspect Hillary is waiting too, until after all the states have voted, just as the SDs are - to make a decision or any announcement. But Obama has done what he can for now - prepared the way.

I think it was very good of him to do this. It shows good leadership.
