About the Michelle Obama video . . .
1) I don't know that it exists.
2) I do know that various interested parties believe that it exists.
3) I have received multiple emails and phone calls about the video because I scribbled my name into a guest-book (maybe 2?) at (from what I now understand) 1 of 3 gatherings in which "the statement" was made.
4) I do not remember that such a statement was made. That is my official statement. This is not meant as some sort of mysterious "I-know-but-I-can't-say" answer. I didn't hear the line; or maybe I did, and I just don't remember. Period.
5) I support Obama.

That is all.

Oh yeah: kill the white people; they don't belong in America. :sarcasm:

4. Nor have I.
In fact, it's supposed to be her at church, if I'm not mistaken. But there are "supposedly" other venues. I guess I was at one of them. I guess I signed my name. I guess I won't be doing that again (signing my name).

6. Again, this rumor has been out for two weeks. There will be nothing on this tomorrow.
Edited on Sun Jun-01-08 10:00 PM by thewiseguy
Or ever for that matter.

This rumor is as good as some Hillary44 member claiming something and never having anything to prove it.

This is their last desperate attempt.

The source who initiated the rumor is the same source who claimed Obama went to Madrassa in Indonesia.

33. I have a hard time believing that Michelle could ever say that
about whites. Her husband is half white. If she hated whites she would not marry someone who has such a mixed race background and family. I think Barack has said his family is like the United Nations.

11. Well I must ask then, was this event for all blacks, or a mixed crowd?
If it were a mixed crowd, with whites there, then I am fully convinced she did not say anything about whitey.

Not that I had a doubt, but who the fuck knows anymore.

12. If it's at the congregation...
It's mixed. That's what unnerves me. And what I mentioned on another board. The congregation has a mixed population. It is not ALL Black like the media wants to mislead people. It has a strong homosexual audience since it's one of the only churches (denominational or not) that supports homosexuality and fights for gay rights---this includes people in mixed partner relationships. It's in the greater Chicago area whre there are many different types of people. This is not the south...any metropolitan church has a mixed congregation. From Hispanic to white. And this church is connected to a larger church and has white parishners. That's why I can't wrap my head around this.

Check out the wiki site for it...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity_united

Here's a quote:
Trinity United Church of Christ is a predominantly black church with more than 8,500 members, located on the southeast side of Chicago.<1> It is the largest church affiliated with the United Church of Christ, a predominantly white Christian denomination with roots in Congregationalism, which branched from American Puritanism.<2>

18. The rumor of its existence is far more powerful than the thing itself
I think this thing will remain a rumor for a long time. Of course, I don't think it exists either. But I think it's a GOP smear that can't be fought as a rumor is very hard to fight directly.

25. Now I get why Obama made those comments about 'going after' Michelle
on GMA, it wasn't the 'first time I am proud of my country comments' which was old news by then.

The repubs have it and are not going to use it to help Clinton, they are going to use it to help McCain.

I just did a google search, over 86,000 hits.

I doubt anything will be released tomorrow, more like October unless they just get to giddy over it and cannot wait.

Who here (honestly) cannot imagine Michelle actually making the comments?

26. I can't. I thought anyone with a brain couldn't though.
An educated woman from Princeton saying this in a sermon at TUCC at a mixed congregation that was being video taped and publicly sold while her husband is on the Senate seat of a state with huge White population as well as other mintories who would be offended.

That's a crazy ass risk and unlikely to be said by a woman with her background and credentials.

Need I mention her husband happens to be half white, who also happens to have a white sister and who also happened to have been raised by his white family. She'd have a bit more respect for his side of the family than that.

28. They sat in a church that said such things all the time for 20 years
If she had that respect she wouldn't have, nor had her daughters grow up in that environment with their white great grandparents still alive and presumably in contact with the family.

Wright is not educated? Obama chose him, he isn't educated?

Getting a college degree does not equate to having common sense or decency, nor does it eliminate bigotry.

There are many graduated idiots in this world.

while I have just heard about it, there have been posts about it since Feb. why release it tomorrow?

It would be most effective to release it October 30 or 31st.

32. The video is such a joke it has four release dates.
Tomorrow is supposed to be a taste by 9am.

The next is within the next three days.

The third is in August.

The fourth is in October.

If they were going to get it out there and with all the talk of it, then you'd think they'd get rid of it now.

31. Actually I heard a few things Wright had said...
Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 02:43 AM by vaberella
What did Wright say that was so outrageous and offensive? The issue was rich whites. Those who enslaved Blacks were not poor whites.

Actually American history would say that indigent whites have faced the same level of persecution, marginalized, and abuse that Blacks have faced. The church is set up to accomodate the disenfranchised and elevate Blacks under a common goal. This is similar to Pan-Africanism, yet it doesn't deny the membership of other races.

I will however say there is a level of mis unity because it is not all rich/wealthy whites that have power. His focus is on power control and manipulation. If we need to discuss the issue of the AIDS comment, this I won't deny is fairely outlandish and was not necessary to mention but---it needs to be said it is his own opinion.

However, if one knows our history and what has been going on to minorities one would know that although his comment is divisive and may not reflect the US currently, we can't say that about the past. Why? Am I the only one who remembers the disease infested blankets given to Native Americans so they could be eliminated? I'm sure I'm not. Let's not forget Eugenics in this country against minority women, paticularly Latina (Hispanic) and Blacks also done in Puerto Rico. Am I the only one who remembers the Tuskegee experiement and letting 399 Black men die while experiments were performed on them. I'm sure I'm not. Taking that into consideration one has to understand the view, even if one doesn't agree with it and finds the statements uncouth for the pulpit.

And if you feel like mentioning Father Pfleger I'll have you know that he didn't say anything that the Daily News did not do or say. They turned Sen. Clinton into a pariah. They mocked and humiliated her to oblivion nad did not let up on the story of her crying and mentioning entitlement for a week. This was doubly added by all the media hounds. Yet, when Father Pfleger said it, it was something shocking and divisive.
