Dee Dee Myers husband wrote the latest Bill & Bimbo eruptions piece at Vanity Fair...
Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 01:30 AM by dkf
by Todd S. Purdum

(I should add, by way of disclosure, that my wife, Dee Dee Myers, was Clinton’s first press secretary. They have not been in regular contact since she left the White House, and she has not been a source for this article.)

Very interesting...I wonder if that means anything.

On Edit: Bill looks steamed...he wrote a loooong response to the article

2. Jeeze louise....I had NO idea that's who wrote that.....
I find it VERY interesting that the old guard - Clinton and Bush BOTH just had their asses busted by former press secretaries.......or their mates....

Absolutely perfect.

41. purdum is horrible
Today I saw this Purdum (HE REALLY IS DUMB) on CNN. What a slanderous piece of trash he is. What he wrote is NOT journalism. It is a slimey little rag on par with the crap you see in the national enquirer.

I hope he gets sued.

9. What a gutter-gossip, pretend-prurient piece of shit this article is!
Barely a cut above National Inquirer!

But I read every word.

Hadn't plugged into Clinton in a while (either one). Thought I'd catch up on Bill. And it is interesting to think about this unique marriage and situation. Wife of former president runs for president. What's he supposed to do? Can't rest on his multi-million dollar speeches laurels. Has to get out there and stump. He a charmer. Her, well... a screecher. (Sorry, Hillary fans--but that's how her voice affects me.) Her smile looks pasted on; his looks easy. What a contrast! And, to be fair, her serious, wonky, and probably by far the better administrator; he, something of a fuckoff, who didn't think NAFTA through all the way to the end and the destruction of the sovereignty of the American people (or maybe he did). And the two partners in this marriage competing for the same Seat of Ultimate Power, one following the other.

So that drew me in--what's Bill been up to? And how can these two still be together? And the pity and tragedy of her failure to be charming. And the pity and the tragedy of his fabled intellect and magical political skills wasted on the Corporate Rulers' agenda. And the oddity of their marriage--him a philanderer, her all business. And the nakedness of the Corporate Rulers' agenda, sans charm. And the excruciating pain of sexism. (Why should a woman candidate have to be charming? Was it all that beneficial to ordinary people that Bill is?)

The article doesn't deliver. It's shallow. Empty. It doesn't even contain the thrill of disclosure. There is nothing to disclose. Bill hangs with some racy people, and hasn't been caught doing anything racy. Why did the writer write it? Why did Vanity Fair publish it? (I thought they had standards.) It hints all over the place at prurience, and has nothing to reveal. Maybe a cut below National Inquirer, because you expect more from Vanity Fair.

I'm sorry I read it. It left me feeling sick about my country. Both that our culture produced such a shitty article, and that I could get suckered into such emptiness.

29. You are right the article sucked...
It reminds me how much I do not want the circus to come to town. Clinton in any other age would have been called a "colorful Character", and I can see how he would be pissed.

I also couldn't resist the tabloid and now need a shower.

Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 07:49 AM by cryingshame
isn't being a "colorful character".

Or maybe you didn't read the whole article or absorb the fact Clinton decided to consort with sleaze and make HUGE amounts of money using his clout as ex-POTUS in ways that are morally repugnant. AND then loaned some of that money to his wife's failed POTUS campaign.

Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 07:53 AM by cryingshame
isn't "gutter-gossip". That crowd funnels money into Bill and Hillary's coffers.

It's a disgrace the Mediawhores blew off actually reporting on the Clinton's tax returns. Clintons dumped them on a Friday and the Mediawhores dutifully then ignored the truth-

Bill Clinton has been pimping his days as POTUS out and to some really unsavory people including foreign nationals whose goals don't mesh well with the USA's.

10. Why bother?
Why is he pulling all this stuff out? Is there a particular reason why this author decided to tabloid the former President... Some say, and speculation is... I don't like this kind of stuff. Facts, present the facts.

The campaign is the campaign, but smearing our President even further.. I suppose we will see a fluff peice on President Bush as well?

14. Todd Purdum has done a number of very "soft" articles on Obama for Vanity Fair
Todd Purdum has done a number of very "soft" articles on Obama for Vanity Fair. I think he's quite biased against the Clintons and his latest article on Bill reflects that.

Note: He actually criticizes Bill Clinton for giving "only" 1 million dollars to charity from the sales of his book "Giving".

12. I hope Dee Dee Myers wakes up one morning
and discovers she married beneath her. I've always liked Dee Dee. It's a shame she found this vapid, truculent poor excuse for a human being as someone desirable to spend the rest of her life with. There is something broken in Todd Purdum as reflected in his scathing sourceless account of Bill Clinton's activities while on the campaign trail and attending the social functions of good friends. Dee Dee has had a wonderful career. My heart goes out to her for having to suffer through the embarrassment of tawdry tabloid journalism of a former president and boss, such that her own husband has brought on her family and her self is just very sad.

You can do better Dee Dee and you deserve better. I hope you're looking.

15. If you look at the inner selves of the author and the subject..
The article is more a profile of an author with serious problems writing an honest straight forward article. As I said, there is some deep personality flaw within Todd Purdum preventing him from avoiding promoting salacious gossip.

I don't know a man who hasn't cheated on his wife probably even Todd Purdum. What has that fact got to do with my post.

I'll make that claim. Your Hillaroid Projection Disease has got you believing everyone's as low as you are. If you've got a wife, I hope she's looking in. You've just admitted to fucking around on her, you dumb wanker.

And it's clear you don't know shit about Dee Dee Myers, either. If you did, she'd get the same spiked boot treatment as her husband and the rest who aren't sufficiently deferential to the Royal Family.

But how many would lie about it to the American People? Clinton could have just said 'none of your business, or I'm not going there' - but he choose to lie straight out on national television.

We defended him then, but it was humiliating.

Then again, the article claims he's made significant upgrades in this area. From Monica to Supermodels and Celebs - Yeeeaaaaaaaaaarrr! Go Bill!!!

I do agree with Bill's criticism that this article doesn't cover his positive impact at all, but this in itself doesn't make it pure libel.

35. Let's clear up one thing in BC's memo
* The hundreds of thousands of people in the Gulf Region who have been the beneficiary of over $130 million in grants given by the Bush Clinton Katrina Fund.

Individuals were not afforded any of the grant monies - they went to organizations, schools, libraries and churches, like the Catholic churches (as if the catholic church needs money). Folks donated for individuals but the BCKF did not award to individuals.

-snip-

As Presidents George H.W. Bush and William J. Clinton announced when creating the Fund, contributions are being used to:

* provide assistance to institutions of higher education ($30 million);
* to help the states of Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana to rebuild and recover ($40 million);
* to support interfaith houses of worship ($25 million ); and
* to support other health, housing, education, and community needs ($35 million.)

For a list of our current grantees by award category, please click the links below:

Higher Education Grants, please click here

State Grants, please click here

Interfaith Institutions, please click here

Other Grants, please click here..

http://www.bushclintonkatrinafund.org/

There are individuals that STILL NEED assistance, housing is still an issue.

All in all, I read it for prurient reasons. I feel particularly bad because I was wanted to know what he was saying? Clinton's off his game?

We all knew BC was off this season. We don't know why. After reading the article, I still don't know why.

Clinton is lonely?
Well...
Because his wife is working, well...
Because he had complications after a heart surgery, well...

I didn't get any meat out of this article.
