When the media has a damaging tape of a candidate or his/her associates... |
|
...they play it the second they get their grubby little mitts on it. No one in the media would SIT on something that would change the whole campaign, and they certainly wouldn't wait until the day before the last two primaries to release it--even if the news station was heavily biased (ahem), there'd be no assurance that anyone whose vote mattered would have a chance to watch it.
And who ever heard of the strategy of blabbing to everyone in earshot of the contents of said tape before actually releasing it? Juicy material tends to comes out of nowhere, because it gives the other side no time to do damage control. If George Allen's people had known about the Maccaca tape for a week before it hit Youtube, don't you think he would have responded better to it? He might have won if that had been the case.
Finally, it's pretty remarkable to me that what only two or three people have SEEN said game-changing footage. Is it on old-fashioned 8 MM film stock or something? Because in these times of viral video and 24-hour news cycles, it's virtually impossible to keep inflammatory footage a secret--especially when it comes from a third party. And then we're supposed to believe these select few who HAVE seen it (and would benefit greatly from its release) can't be bothered to describe it in great detail? All they feel qualified to offer up is a person, a place, and a single WORD?
For the above reasons and many more, I am quite ready to declare this Michelle Obama footage a bluff--an ugly, race-bating bluff. If it existed, we'd all have watched it multiple times by now; but it's pretty damn suspicious and ridiculous that every one KNOWS about it but no one's SEEN it. Like the campaign-ending Rezko trial (scoff), the rumors have been scarier than anything that followed...and the bark of the candidate's critics turned out to be far worse than their bite.

Just put the innuendo out there, and it will take care of itself.

4. It's the lack of vetting I find most objectionable. |

In the video of Michelle Obama, they clipped it to remove the all important word "really" in her statement. The media knew this, but they played the GOP version that was altered repeatedly.

7. How weird is it that I would defend the wife of our prospective nominee against vicious rumors? |
