Thom vs. Pat
(Buchanan trying to defend his white supremacism to Hartmann)
Thom must have a titanium stomach lining.

1. Well, that was certainly an interesting take on it.

2. Thom's weakness is that he is FAR too trusting.
He is an idealist and an eternal optimist.

God love him, but sometimes it's too much.

5. I used to think that too but would you rather have him invite guests on
and then call them liars and yell at them?

I enjoy his show because he does promote dialogue with wing nuts like Buchanan. If they just sat there and hollered at each other for half an hour it would not be an enjoyable radio show for me.

8. You're creating a false dichotomy.
It's not a choice between being submissive and being a namecalling jerk.

I realize what he's trying to do. Really I do, I've been listening for two years. It's just that a lot of the time I think he lets the guests run roughshod over him in the sake of "dialogue". I was particularly incensed with how John Bolton treated him a few months back.

I realize that he takes a nuanced position, but understand that it is often difficult to listen because of that position.

6. what Thom does is brilliant, he teaches everyone how to debate these people
I am glad he regularly invites right wingers on his show. We should all learn from Thom.

10. That's not what I was saying.
He lets the rightwingers run over him, back up, and run over him again. He'll get tough with nobodies like Carrie Lukas, but when big name Neocons show up, he gets all soft.

12. its a technique of letting everyone see how crazy their position is
Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 11:57 AM by LSK
Kinda like Obama telling his supporters not to show up on Saturday and the Hillary supporters made an ass of themselves.

He does that somewhat.

Giving them a rope to hang themselves on.

13. It doesn't work if you let the guest establish the framing.
He let Podhoretz make himself sound reasonable through his framing.

Ugh. I just wish Thom was as rough and tumble with the big guys as he is with nobodies from conservative rags.

3. Did you hear Thom mention that "Mark (Green)" basically vetoed him?
I asked a week or so ago on this board "WHO kidnapped the REAL Thom Hartmann?" Well, the dog whistle went out today when Thom mentioned that he had wanted to add Pat's book to Thom's recommended reading list or book of the month club, but that "Mark" didn't want it there because it was written Pat Buchanan.

Okay, so, Clinton surrogate Mark Green is making decisions regarding the content of the Thom Hartmann show.

That completely explains WHY out of the blue Thom Hartmann is advocating for HRC as VP selection.

7. He was speaking about the Buzz Flash book selection
And I took it to mean that Mark at Buzz Flash had vetoed the Buchanan book as their monthly selection.

15. I don't know who he is but that's what it sounded like he was saying
I would also be very disappointed to learn that Hartmann was allowing a dipshit like Green to censor his book selections.

11. I wonder how much control Mark Green has over the show
Because it sure seemed like somebody told Thom to cut the phone call from Shelly Drobny short.

(For those who don't know the history, Shelly Drobny was one of the founders of Air America, and now owns the Nova M Radio network)

16. The people with the MONEY always call the shots
If GREEN and his crew are the money-people, they DO get to decide on how the shows are presented.. That's just how it works..
