The Whitey Chronicles

So I've gotten a few emails from people wondering about these "rumors" about Michelle Obama being caught on tape saying the word "whitey" in her church while bashing White America. Needless to say, I'm pretty skeptical for a number of reasons.

First, the "source" for this story are the same people who say Obama had sex in the back of a limo with a toothless, ugly, crackhead in order to score some blow when he was a state Senator. They are also the same people who argue that Obama really opposed the Iraq War because Saddam paid him to via Tony Rezko. Because that makes sense. Now, maybe they will get it right this time around, but I have a hard time believing Larry Johnson or SusanHu as credible sources.

Second, "whitey?" Seriously? I have been a black man for 27 years and as a definitive expert on being a black man for 27 years I can honestly say I've never heard a black person use the word "whitey." I'm serious. Not even as a joke. I've heard white people use the word "whitey" but black people have other words for white people. Listen to a rap song. Do you ever heard the words "whitey" in R & B or rap? Nope.

Now, if it were "cracker", or "honky" or "buckra" or "pale faces" or "mzungus" or wiggers, I'd believe it. But the idea of any black person using the word "whitey" in this day and age just seems unbelieveable. If this were like 1970 and she was Weezey Jefferson then sure. But "whitey"? Really? That sounds like something a white person would think a black person would say when in fact, "whitey" as a racial word went out of style decades ago.

Third, do you honestly believe that this tape could be in the possession of Fox News, Karl Rove, dozens of journalists, etc. and NOT been shown in an endless loop by now? You honestly think that in this day and age of instant media that this tape would somehow be kept secret? Do you really believe that Karl Rove, Fox News, et al are THAT powerful and that disciplined? Really? Have you been paying attention the past 10 years? Really?

This "whitey" issue is just to stir shit up. And it's succeeded. Now time to move on.

1. Michelle Obama ranting about "Whitey"? Almost sounds like satire to me.
Unfortunately, there are those dumb enough to believe it actually happened.

7. 1969: "Don't Call Me Nigger, Whitey" by Sly & the Family Stone...
...Michelle Obama was five years old. And no, I do not believe that tape exists. Because the words that it is purported to record never existed either.

One argument for the tape's existence, despite the fact that it hasn't been aired yet, could be that Republicans are saving it for the general election. The counter-argument to that is the seemingly obvious fact that Republicans would rather face Clinton than Obama in the fall.

8. lmao appartently this person doesn't actually listen to rap
I'd post the songs I know of but their lyrics are too pathetic and offensive to repeat.

I'm sure half the rap songs that contain this do it either for the vulgarity shock or as a statement on anger within the black community rather than pure racism, but seriously, this guy doesn't have google? There's even a band NAMED 'kill whitey', not to mention songs with the name.

9. The band Flesh Parade had an album called 'Kill Whitey,' with cover art
depicting angry New Guinean(?) tribesmen. I would post the image, but the only ones I can find are really tiny.

15. INDK has one of that name also (c.2002).

I'm sure there are more. I know Eminem has a song with this in it as does Wesley Willis. I can remember an episode of The John Laroquette show where he was in the car with someone playing a song with only 2 lyrics: Kill Whitey (it was funny - he goes, "so..... what's this song called?").

To claim this word isn't in use anyplace is a ridiculous statement. Almost as ridiculous as saying Michelle uttered this.

10. It's clearly bullshit spread by racists whose strategy is to paint the Obamas as being racist.
Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 02:39 PM by kwenu
The strategy is shameful and those people who repeat this garbage are willing and responsible players.

12. I find it difficult to believe that Michelle Obama would just toss
something like that out there. It may have been used in some way to produce a point in something in a conversation, but she appears to me to be far too refined and dignified to do something like that, especially out of some form of "spite".

This is just one more manufactured device the RW uses to divide and conquer; I can't picture anyone, except the lowest of slime, thinking this is true in any way, shape or form. Just shows me that the RW is terrified and will, try anything to try to put a wedge between the various aspects of a diversified Democratic Party, (and solidify some of the neo-con racists that prowl around the GOP).

I was there in the 60's fighting for Civil Rights, and only in the most extreme cases did I hear public utterances of such things, usually by a rabid element of the Black Panters, or a very early Malcom X, something like that.

This is not to say racism on all levels and in all aspects of society does not exist, there is more than enough to go around...but whenever I hear something come out of RW talking heads, I can pretty well figure it is BS...:hi:

And, FWIW, being caucasian and marching for Civil Rights back then...it was not only somewhat dangerous, but it was one of the most exhilarating things I have ever done. It took time, but progress was made. Equality is elusive, but we are still working the lines, and fighting the good fight.

13. this is my absolute last post on this subject until anything actually springs up
but...I love how our debunking (besides "Michelle would never say something that racist") includes "WHO says whitey anymore??" That was my reaction too. Also, my reaction to the limo/gay sex/coke thing was...."What self respecting Senator wouldn't have better coke connections than that? It's not that hard. He wouldn't have to find some toothless loser."
