The evill Latte
The latte or caffe latte if you are in Italy is a beverage consisting of espresso and steamed milk according to Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Latte

My question is how did the latte become associated with wealthy elitists? During this primary and on this discussion boards are numerous references to the latte, usually in defense of why one candidate performed better in one state over another.

In the absence of evidence, I am left to conclude the poor (I mean rich) latte has been unfairly treated. In fact, I read a similar remark about the cappuccino.

Then I had my Eureka moment! The answer is obviously the latest social ill to hit the scene in this primary. The Caffist. The caffists have a prejudice against various coffee products which do not drip through coffee grains in a paper filter.

I have climbed the mountain top and screamed, "Let all coffee be equal!".

Much work needs to be done to educate the public about this growing problem and I hope you will join me down at the local coffee shop over a latte. Oops, I mean an espresso with steamed milk.

1. Well, in my view...

it's associated with regular Starbucks customers, who are generally stereotyped as corporate douchebags. If you can afford to spend $5 a day on coffee, then you're obviously of decent means, or something. I'm not saying I believe this, but that's how it's often viewed.

Living in western Washington, however, where latte stands, coffee shops, and coffee in general is about as common as bottled water, I see people of all means drinking the stuff. I don't drink it because I can't afford it. I simply don't have a love affair with coffee. I have other costly vices. lol

4. Except that nowdays you can get a latte at any
convenience store or Dunkin' Donuts where I live. It's lost its status. LOL.

5. when it started costing $3 & up for one.
and requires a $500 machine to make one instead of your grandmother's stained percolator.

see, coffee should cost 75 cents, be served with non-dairy creamer powder, & make your guts ache. like the crap they give away at rest areas.

9. I'm a coffee snob. lol
My manual brewing equipment cost me about $60 (thermal carafe, cone filter holder, decent grinder), and it's the best damn coffee I ever drank. Of course, I don't drink coffee frequently, but when I do, it's the only kind I'll drink.

10. Mr Coffee
Sells a nice little espresso machine for $25. French Roast beans from costco and 2% organic milk. Yummi. Wish I could afford fair trade beans.

Gawd, I thought this died weeks ago. What a dumb talking point.

on edit - Not the OP responding to anti-latteism, but the anti-latteism itself.

7. It's an old GOP theme: Guys who wear starched underwear that is monogrammed claim Dems are elitists
They have been doing this for at least 60 years, and now, Hillary has adopted their themes.

A couple that has made over one million dollars a month for the past 7 years is calling others elitists. A couple that hasn't bought their own groceries in over 15 years is calling others elitist. A couple that wallows with rich people all over the world all the time is calling others elitist.
