Saturday's Ruling Changed What? |
|
Did Saturday make any difference in anything? Anything at all?
We still don't have a candidate. It's still up to the SD's to decide. I'm at a loss to find anything that was actually accomplished Saturday.

2. There was a definite change |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 02:42 PM by IWantAnyDem
Barack Obama needed forty some odd more delegates to win before the ruling and he needed sixty some odd delegates to win after the ruling.
So in effect, the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee raised the bar on Obama.

that was never going to happen. Anyone who truly believed that was either: A) deranged or B) has the last name Clinton.
It's like a baseball manager trying to argue that we shouldn't look at the final score to determine the winner. We should instead look at hits plus walks, divided by ERA, for those games started by a left-hander on Wednesdays.

5. While I'm relieved that the DNC meant it when they said the delegates would not be seated as is |
|

I fear that in the future, some states may decide that it will be "worth it" to lose delegates to break the rules. Splitting the pledged delegates down the middle and not seating the superdelegates would have been a much more potent deterrent.

We live in a world now where there are no repercussions for anything. Punishment is seen as too harsh, even when deserved. Remember when teachers could discipline kids and the parents would back them up? Now the parents demand that the teacher be fired.

9. In terms of Obama's magic number he was moved back about 25 delegates |
|
Since then he has gotten about the same and his magic number is now 42.5 versus 44 on Friday.
In terms of clinching the nomination it had no effect.

12. it changed one thing - |
|
it set a precedent for the idea that you can be given delegates in a race where your name wasn't on the ballot.
In light of the fact that sending those delegates to Denver "uncommitted" wouldn't have really changed anything (Obama still would be the presumptive nominee), it makes a mockery of the entire process as "democratic".

13. It changed absolutely nothing, and that's the way |

they wanted it. The committee is a bunch of cowards who didn't want to take any kind of stand, and made the "decision" that would have the least effect.

We have a winner!
The committee did not want to help either side, nor have any real impact. So it sat on its hands, found some comfortable middle ground, and did the least controversial thing possible.
Boy it would be nice to have LEADERS.
