How will the Pundits and Columnists takes sides in the GE? Here's my list so far |
|
Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 05:01 PM by featherman
This is kind of a "top of my head" list of cable news hosts and commentators as well as columnists and news anchors and how I think they will likely slant the coverage during this GE campaign. Each of them does it as we know. Obviously Faux is not included but if there is a likely pro-Obama employee of Faux that you know of, please include.
Feel free to add to this list. I will continue to tally through the GE and change "affiliations" as necessary:
PUNDITS, COLUMNISTS, AND ANCHORS TAKE SIDES FOR THE GE: likely breakdown as I see it today 6/2/08
Keith Olbermann - Obama Tim Russert - McCain Rachel Maddow - Obama Pat Buchanan - McCain Chris Matthews - Chris Matthews Howard Fineman - unknown Jonathan Alter - Obama Richard Wolffe - Obama Andrea Mitchell - McCain Brian Williams - McCain
Wolf Blitzer - McCain Candy Crowley - McCain John King - McCain Jack Cafferty - Obama Larry King - not of this planet Glenn Beck - McCain Anderson Cooper - Peter Pan
George Stephanopoulus - McCain Charles Gibson - McCain
Bob Herbert - Obama Paul Krugman - unknown David Broder - McCain Frank Rich - Obama Charles Krauthammer - McCain E.J. Dionne - Obama Maureen Dowd - hates everybody equally David Brooks - McCain Thomas Friedman - unknown William Kristol - McCain Mark Shields - Obama

Even McCain isn't crazy enough for him. He might endorse Francisco Franco if we dig him up for him.

35. Franco would suffice in a pinch |
|
The neocons base their political philosophy on the Italian Fascist Party of the 1920s and 1930s. Rove's foreign policy adviser (and yellowcake forger) Michael Ledeen is a fanatical admirer of Mussolini and D'Annunzio. If they could dig up Mussolini, Ledeen and Rove would be the campaign co-chairs.

and John King to McCain. I suppose I should include his girlfriend/wife/whatever in this but don't watch McCNN much anymore so can't remember most of their commentators and reporters.
Thomas "Units" Friedman is hard for me to pin down yet. AIPAC?

6. Good idea - and one made possible by Dan Rather's admission that corpmedia NEEDED to protect Bush |
|
before and during the 2004 campaign for the favorable rulings they expected in his second term. McClellan's recollections further validate how IN THE TANK the media was for Bush for so long.
If not for those who admitted media's complicity in recent months, McCain would be far ahead of Obama in the breakdown you posted.

Corpmedia had other, more greedy reasons for targeting Kerry, too.
FIVE YEARS AGO TODAY:
June 2, 2003 Kerry Seeks to Reverse FCC's "Wrongheaded Vote"
Commission Decision May Violate Laws Protecting Small Businesses; Kerry to File Resolution of Disapproval
WASHINGTON - Senator John Kerry today announced plans to file a "Resolution of Disapproval" as a means to overturn today's decision by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to raise media ownership caps and loosen various media cross-ownership rules. Kerry will soon introduce the resolution seeking to reverse this action under the Congressional Review Act and Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act on the grounds that the decision may violate the laws intended to protect America's small businesses and allow them an opportunity to compete. As Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Kerry expressed concern that the FCC's decision will hurt localism, reduce diversity, and will allow media monopolies to flourish. This raises significant concerns about the potential negative impacts the decision will have on small businesses and their ability to compete in today's media marketplace. In a statement released earlier today regarding the FCC's decision, Kerry said: "Nothing is more important in a democracy than public access to debates and information, which lift up our discourse and give Americans an opportunity to make honest informed choices. Today's wrongheaded vote by the Republican members of the FCC to loosen media ownership rules shows a dangerous indifference to the consolidation of power in the hands of a few large entities rather than promoting diversity and independence at the local level. The FCC should do more than rubber stamp the business plans of narrow economic interests.
"Today's vote is a complete dereliction of duty. The Commissioners are well aware that these rules greatly influence the competitive structure of the industry and protect the public's access to multiple sources of information and media. It is the Commission's responsibility to ensure that the rules serve our national goals of diversity, competition, and localism in media. With today's vote, they shirked that responsibility and have dismissed any serious discussion about the impact of media consolidation on our own democracy."

16. Your Bias is showing (re:Krugman) |
|
No way that Krugman is pro-McCaine.
Yet in snarkville you put him as unknown.
This list is a typical tactic. Put in enough "TrueFacts", then slip in the shiv a few of your own biases, then hope people swallow the whole list.
You are in danger of becoming like the monster you (supposedly) intended to fight.

17. If you are addressing me, in the original post I had him for Obama but one |
|
reply speculated that he might not reverse himself that dramatically and may opt for neutrality or something. So I moved him to "unknown". I don't see where the bias is in that? I'm just trying to figure this out. I will certainly put him in the Obama column as soon as he makes it clear that is where he is going to be. I think Krugman is great and I'd like to have his strong voice on our side in this fight. But has he moved to supporting Obama yet?

But I can't blame my post on the others on this board - it was me who did the typing.

I think Anderson will be for Obama - if only because he's young. ;-)
I mean, McCain almost looks like an old pirate, y'know.
I think some of them will jump on the Obama train simply because they know it's a new thing. Compared to dragging around the smelly garbage of the Bush admin. like McCain, Obama is a breath of fresh air.

Yes, he was a strong Clinton supporter, but read anything he's even written outside of his political cheerleading and I don't see any way he's going for McCain.
If the Clinton's point the way even a little bit Stephanopoulus will fall into line and go with Obama.
Beck will be in the hole with Krauthammer diggin for Franco (or maybe Mussolini).
Walter Cronkite will heave himself to his feet one more time and support Obama as best he can.
Edward R. Murrow will rise from the dead and record a plug for Obama.
