Obama Invites Clinton to Unity Meeting
On the precipice of winning the Democratic nomination, Barack Obama today shared a phone conversation he had with rival Hillary Clinton about uniting the party.

"I emphasized to her what an extraordinary race that she's run and said that there aren't too many people who understand exactly how hard she's been working," he told reporters in Waterford, Mich., relating their talk Sunday when he congratulated her on her victory in Puerto Rico.

"I'm one of 'em because she and I have been on this same journey together, and I told her that once the dust settled I was looking forward to meeting with her at a time and place of her choosing. The sooner we can bring the party together, the sooner we can focus on John McCain and taking back the White House."

If Obama indeed clinches the nomination after the Montana and South Dakota primaries Tuesday, that meeting could conceivably come as soon as Wednesday in Washington, where both are scheduled to address the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference.

1. He is a true stateman
He reached out to her in a way which shows respect and preserves her dignity. Even though she was never my choice, I can only imagine how difficult this has been for her. I really hope they come to an understanding so our Democratic Family can heal.

5. She wasn't my choice either, but I feel for her right now
She has poured her heart and soul into this campaign -- some of
the tactics show just how much she wanted this -- and now to have
to hang it up must be so difficult. I have faith that Obama is
an empathetic enough person to give her whatever time she needs
to "process" these developments, and to help make this transition
as painless as possible. I've been very upset by some of her
behavior during the campaign, but I hope that she is able to
exit the stage with dignity, and that Obama and his surrogates
(and all Democrats, frankly) give her the respect that she
deserves after running a long, tough race.

10. There are only a few in the Clinton Camp pushing to keep the fight going.
Most importantly, I don't think Hillary or Bill are for it.

21. Fervor, passion, cynicism.
Fervor and passion in the long Primary, and eager to continue and build the fight against McDubya. Many are ready to move into General Election mode, and take this country back from the Neo-Cons.

And, many are cynical that Hillary has good intentions. They have animosity that needs to be let go of, so we CAN move forward.

We really need everyone fighting McDubya and his chimpy backing.

NO MORE OF THE REICH WING!!! The Progressives are the True Patriots!!!

23. Hillary to say tonight she will do whatever it take to bring the Party together.
NEW YORK (CNN) – Sen. Hillary Clinton is poised to deliver a message Tuesday "that she will do whatever it takes" to put a Democrat in the White House — a message that Barack Obama insiders say indicates she would accept an offer to be Obama's running mate if asked.

"In her speech tomorrow night, she will convey the message that first and foremost she is committed to Democrats winning in November and will do whatever she's asked to do," a close friend and adviser of the former first lady, who speaks with her regularly and is privy to her deliberations, told CNN Monday.

"She will do whatever it takes to bring the party together to win and whatever is asked of her to make sure the Republicans are defeated."

That message has been conveyed to the Obama campaign via informal channels, according to Obama insiders who said the message is a signal that she would be willing to serve as his vice president.

Saying she will do whatever is needed means much. It means she will not challenge the ruling at the COnvention. And, it means she would take on a campaign role. She would be VP, if asked, but maybe not demanding it.
