California voters: What's your opinion of Props. 98 and 99?
As usual, the ballot is confusing, with two competing propositions, and whichever one gets more votes becomes law.

1. Isn't it possible for both of them to be defeated?
I don't think it's automatic that whichever one gets the most votes becomes law. I believe it's more that, if both pass, the one with the larger majority trumps the other one.

2. My understanding is that they can both be defeated.
My Dem club has taken an unofficial position (I believe) that 99 is better than 98...

5. No on 98
Some argue that 98 includes tougher language on eminent domain--which is both good and bad--but it also disallows communities from enacting rent controls, which is entirely bad (unless you are a landlord). Arnie and both senators are against it for reasons including the rent control measure, as well as making it hard to use eminent domain for necessary projects (not just to give to some business to turn into a mall).

99 is the more reasonable bill.

9. No on 98. Yes on 99 only to defeat 98.
Your voter's guide has the arguments. I'm voting no on both, because neither addresses the issue of eminent domain abuse with the proper nuance and 98 is just a rent control vacancy decontrol measure wrapped up in an eminent domain coat.

21. I voted no on both
I voted no on both, I knew about the landlord thing and though 99 might sound ok there are usually unintended consequences to these propositions and so I voted no.
