Um... Hillary As VP, Or Biden, Or Dodd, Even Webb... Or For Cabinet Posts...
Before we eviscerate the barely Democratic majority in the Senate, we ought to have a little checklist here don't you think?

If they give up their Senate seat, how are they replaced, and by whom? Is it the governor of their state, and is that governor a Democrat?

How much seniority do they have? And if they leave to work in the Obama Administration (damn I like the sound of that) will they be replaced by more conservative Democratic Senators? And what would that get us?

We could field one hell of a team from the Senate. I'm just worried about what would happen TO the Senate.

1. Good post, and that is an absolute imparitive for an Obama Presidency...
They have to make certain that anyone that comes either from the House or Senate will be replaced with an equally good replacement before asking them to join the cabinet.

2. That's why Richardson will be the VP
Edwards isn't in the Senate anymore, and he will be AG. I like Biden for Secretary of State. Delaware has a Democratic governor now, but she's out in November.

I don't think we should take too many from the Senate though. Or the House, as Wexler's name has come up a lot lately. I'd actually like to see him stay right where he is, and continue the fight against electro-fraud "voting"

4. Richardson would be the absolute worst choice.
It would be a poke in the eye to the more radid Hillary supporters just when we need them most.

5. The Hillary supporters are Democrats, and they will support the nominee
Just as the Richardson supporters, the Biden supporters, the Kucinich supporters, the Edwards supporters, and the Dodd supporters will. Just as the Deaniacs voted for Kerry in 2004. And wanted to punch his lights out when he conceded Ohio, but that's neither here or there.

The rabid Hillbots can fuck themselves. They aren't holding this party hostage.

12. There is no need to give them a poke in the eye, though.
And it remains to be seen if they are going to hold this party hostage.

Until then, it is best to try to unite, not divide.

9. You shouldn't worry what will happen to the Senate, though
Edited on Mon Jun-02-08 10:37 PM by Spider Jerusalem
For instance: if Jim Webb is chosen as VP, Tim Kaine, the governor of Virginia, is a Democrat, would appoint any replacement, and is term-limited and would be a likely candidate to seek the seat himself. If Hillary is chosen, I don't see the voters of NY electing a Republican to replace her. I don't see Dodd's seat going to a Republican either (despite Lieberman winning re-election in CT). I think your concerns are largely unfounded.

11. Not likely in NY or CT; Tim Kaine is somewhat more conservative, but still better than any GOPer
