But here's the thing I never got: in Friday the 13th part II, the heroine at the end only decapitated Jason Voorhies. I remember thinking, "man, this dude is pretty much indestructible, why don't you find a chipper and make sure he's gone????

I really hate it when a maniacal killer is shot once or twice, is assumed to be dead (see Michael Meyers in _Halloween_), and then comes back to life. All you have to do is sever the head, arms, and legs; then what's the crazed killer gonna do?

You can't let the enemy live. You can't let the enemy walk. You must use the chipper. Anything less is trouble. No sympathy. We've seen what the killer can do. We've been wounded. We know the poison, the toxic that it spews. And let us not even begin to fathom a metaphorical Freddy Kruger; Jesus, the last thing we need is someone haunting/killing us in our dreams--death by mere suggestion.

The democratic party is a veritable imagination land (for South Park fans). Think only good thoughts. Let us build the wall high and strong.

Edited for the metaphor-alleregic: no to Clinton as VP.

3. To Hell with horror movies!
They're a means of social control. The end message of every horror movie made within the last thirty years has been right-wing. To wit:

NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, FRIDAY THE 13th, AND THEIR COPYCAT KILLER FILMS: Kill anyone you suspect of being bad. Sounds like Bush's answer to the Terraists.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD AND ITS UNDEAD CLONES: Same as above, but also there is no hope or help from anyone. If the evil people contact you, you too will become evil. The Christian Right love that one, especially in regards to gays and blacks.

SNAKES ON A PLANE, MONSTER INSECT MOVIES, DAMN NEAR ANY MONSTERIZED CREATURE MOVIE: Don't leave the confines of your home. Nature, foreign people, anything outside the familiar will kill you.

You ever notice that Pat Robertson and company never complain about horror movies? Why should they? They're doing Pat's work for him; making people fearful of anything but him.

Oh, and to bring this back to the track: comparing Hillary Clinton to Freddy Krueger is hardly a healing process.

:tinfoilhat:

I love horror movies, never viewed them with a political slant. They are for the most part a good/evil scenario with a little injection of religion. Sinning gets you killed, yadda yadda. Not a religious person but I don't mind it being part of the plot.

8. um... wow.
You haven't been paying any attention to subtext when you've watched these, then... at least in terms of the DEAD series. George Romero is one of the most liberal, socially-conscious filmmakers of the past 40 years. NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, DAWN OF THE DEAD, DAY OF THE DEAD, and LAND OF THE DEAD are about as liberal-subversive as they come.
