It's going to be so fun to see these two little ones bringing some life to the place!
What do you think, could they be any cuter?

I thought the same thing yesterday. These little girls should not have to hear and see such vitriol aimed at their daddy. I know it comes with the political territory, but I hope they are shielded from much of it.

55. I didn't know that.
One of the essential issues: There's a difference between knowing and really knowing. Our "leaders" don't understand who we are and what our lives are about, hence, to Democrats & Republicans, we are expendable political resources when it comes to things such as the IWR.

56. His mother, when she went to college
she was on food stamps. The two of them are more like me than any two politicians I've ever seen in my life. My daughter was born about 20 miles from Jon Tester's farm, so I relate to him too. Still, Barack and Michelle are more like me than even he is. Well, except they had the guts to take out the loans to get through school and I didn't.

40. The second dog I ever knew (as a small child) was an Irish Setter ... an adorable dog.
She was wonderfully playful ... and actually smiled and chuckled(!). But removing thistles from her coat was an aginizing process. For her, too. Can't have a dog ... and Camp David to play in ... without thistle problems.

It has two modes - sleeping and playing, and is great fun...but then again maybe the beagle is not such a presidential or stately WH breed.

A reporter asked about this and Obama was hedging a bit, "Well, we'll see..." and Michelle said something like, "You know we promised them a dog." And he started to say, "Well-" She looked straight into the camera and cut him off with, "Girls, you're getting a dog." Cracked me up.

Both those kids have genuine smiles, not carefully crafted plastic beauty contest rictus like you see in political spouses and kids. I know it's completely arbitrary and subjective but I think it says good things about the family.

19. I keep thinking about the generations of black "staff"
at the WH. Imagine what this would have meant to all of them if they could have known. I think about John Adams, so wracked with guilt about the slavery compromise...what this would have meant to him. About Sojourner Truth, MLK, so many others. I can't think of anything that could do more to restore faith in the possibilities of America.
