Barr campaign to white supremacists: ‘Don’t let the door hit you on the way out’

Monday, June 2, 2008, 04:34 PM

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Libertarian blogs are reporting that Bob Barr is having it out with the same group of white supremacists who sullied Ron Paul’s Republican presidential campaign.

A pair of web sites, including something called Stormfront.org, on Monday ran an endorsement of Barr by James Buchanan:

“A vote for Bob Barr would at least send a message to the Republican Party that conservatives and Whites won’t sit still as they are stuck with a liberal presidential candidate like McCain.”

David Weigel at Reason.com offers this bit of essential background on Libertarian politics, and why that endorsement struck a nerve:

One of the bigger media blunders the Ron Paul campaign made was its handling of endorsements from the bigots at Stormfront. White nationalists slithered around the fringes of the Paul movement, and Paul refused to return a donation from Stormfronter Don Black on the grounds that he’d rather the money be spent on the Paul campaign than spent by racists.

Thirdpartywatch.com reports Barr campaign manager Russ Verney is having none of it. He immediately issued this statement:

”The Barr campaign is not going to be a vehicle for every fringe and hate group to promote itself.

“We do not want and will not accept the support of haters. Tell the haters I said don’t let the door hit you on the backside on your way out!

“Anyone with love in their heart for our country and for every resident of our country regardless of race, religion, nationality or sexual orientation is welcome with open arms.”

They don't want him to get the racist vote. By coming out for Bob Barr and basically making him refuse the racist vote, they signal to the racists that he isn't their friend so might as well vote for McCain. Look at some of the comments. Now he is supposedly half black? lol!

Doesn’t Stormfront know Bob Barr himself is half african american. This would be a good time for Barr to talk about his african american heritage and say how foolish that Stormfront is for supporting him when in fact he himself is a minority. Ask Stormfront do they still support me now knowing I am half african american. Barr can show how foolish Stormfront is. Barr should be open about his african american heritage and be proud of it instead of trying to hide it.

R. Barr will never be a good choice for America. This man is ignorant to the overspending of our fed. He is a firm backer in the war on drugs, and says there is no evidence that medical marijuana can be bennificial, and the recipients of the M.M. are only usung illness as an exuse to use drugs! Go read a book dude!!

Apparently Stephanie is unfamiliar with the concept of learning from one’s mistakes and trying to rectify problems they’ve created out of their ignorance. Barr has changed his world-view so dramatically in the last couple years I can understand why many are skeptical. It’s called “personal growth”, kids. Get some!

Stephanie, I think you are wrong. I am a Libertarian and was VERY skeptical of Bob Barr. I have learned that since he left the GOP he has worked as a paid lobbyist for the Marijuana Policy Project. You are repeating arguments I hear circulating in the rumor mill.

I recognize that people change learn and grow. As a believer in liberty I know that truth, justice and the american way are winning concepts and I think Bob Barr has been overwhelmed and won over by the plain truth.

Regardless of his record while working as a party of the Republican machine, I am more than willing to believe that if he is brave enough to jump from the safe harbor of an estabished party to the Libertarian Party, he is brave enough to own up to his blunders against freedom and work within the Libertarian framework.

Yeah, people never change! People never learn from their mistakes or revise their views!

But seriously…what is up with the way people view politicans in American today?

In our own lives we hate people who are overly stubborn or never learn or change, but we think our politicians must have always had the same views.

If our politicians change their minds at all we call them ‘flip-floppers’.

Go Bob Barr! He is our only conservative choice. Barr taking votes away from Mccain and costing him the election will be the best thing for the right and will teach us a lesson. I am voting for Bob Barr!

Get lost (Ward?) Churchill.

Ron Paul is a heck of a better guy than the three stooges (McCain, Clinton and Obama). I am proud to have voted for him in the Georgia republican presidential primary.

My vote in November goes to Bob Barr since Paul ain’t going to run as a third-party or independent presidential candidate in 2008.

Who is Barr? Why his apparent “stand” against so-called white supremacists?

I think it would be wise to understand that the unpublic powers that own McCain, Clinton and at the least controls Obama, do not look kindly upon the Ron Paul phenomonen and the man himself.

Rule and divide has worked for this group of people for a very long time - as has controlling the path of humanity to controlled events of chaos: i.e. problem-recation-solution.

Why has Barr copied Paul’s message? And why is he know using it to created discord - where Paul previously succeeded in bringing peple together.

Why has Barr not copied this one particular slogan from Paul?

“Freedom brings people together”

1. I don't haunt republican blogs, but I do one minor snarky thing...

...when I'm around republican folks. I make a point of mentioning -- and I do believe this is true, based on republican dogma:

"You know, it's really sad that Bob Barr, the candidate who best reflects core republican values and positions these days, had to start his election bid from *outside* the party. It shows you how far McCain has veered off course from the republican message. That would never happen if a *real* republican had one the nomination."

It's nice to be able to return the "favor" republicans have done for democrats in many past elections.

Many people, especially blacks in GA, always thought Barr looked like a brother!
That was no secret when I was growing up in GA. The speculation is widespread. Barr has never come out or confirmed that he is half black, but his hair is nappier than mine and his nose is broader than most black Americans. LOL!!

10. Half black I doubt. He looks like someone whose forbear "passed" as white
In my humble no lineage chart having opion --- When I first saw him in the 1990s, I wondered why at this late date a black man would try to pass for white. He looked to me like what I used to hear from my AA classes.

Brief history. People would come from the South where the paper bag test was standard fare, they'd go north where the standards for white and black were different, and say they were white. No one knew them or their family tree. They'd enjoy the benefits of white society.

If they were able to get married, they'd pray the resultant baby was fair skinned enough to pass for white. If the baby had our features, they'd send the baby to the relatives in the South to look after and hope their spouse wouldn't reveal their identity. If their race was not accepted, they'd return South with the baby.

If the race of the baby was still not an issue, that black forebear may or may not tell the ensuing generations that they had a possible slave progenitor in their lineage. If enough generations went by even if some of the racial traits became dominant...they figured it wouldn't matter because the parents looked as white as any other.

Now for the snark. SURELY, other Americans know how many things AAs did to enjoy the full benefits of majority society?

Surely this isn't news to you?

Also, has for the presidential legacy of calling a person a N word lover and accusing them of having N word blood (certainly not just true in the South but across America)...surely you can understand how important it was for AAs at those moments in history to say if we can't beat them then we will literally join them?
It is one of the reasons the hue of the skin is still so important with AA people.
