This year's Pittsburgh Penguins remind me a lot of Hillary Clinton
They're tenacious, they never give up, and it aint over until it's OVER, despite what any of the pundits are claiming. :smoke:

1. Except that Hillary is more like the Redwings - the team with all the name(s) and sponsors
Then out of nowhere comes this ragtag team of penguins to take the wings out.

2. Ummm, I can't begin to tell you what is wrong with your analogy. Suffice it to say,
you don't follow the NHL.

In particular, this portion: "the team with all the name(s)" is amusing!

12. I think the name Red Wings probably sounds more oninous to
folks who only follow the NHL a little bit. And Penguins, well, they're so cute and cuddly, right?

So on the surface it works.

I have to say that I fell asleep before it was over and fully expected the Wings to win it. That arena was rockin last night.

Normally I dislike the Wings but since Pennsylvania went for Clinton, I have decided to root for the wings this year even though I really like Marion Hossa. Wish we had him.

16. Last night was the best game of the series, bar none.
I love to see the type of grit and determination on the part of the Pens, even though I am rooting for the Wings.

Btw, I think your theory may be correct!

"Red Wings probably sounds more oninous"

18. I used to.
It's been several years. I was a redwings fan from Columbus that begrudgingly supported the Bluejackets until I moved away. It's sad that I silently cheered the wings through 5 (pre & during season) games the opening year for the jackets. At least I had great seats.

Now don't tarnish my image of the redwings.

20. Things are completely different now: there is a salary cap, and Sidney Crosby (Pens) is the media
/NHL favorite (think an NHL version of Lebron James, if that helps.)

Which is what made your comments ironic.

3. Ugh. Don't compare my Pens to Clinton.
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 09:10 AM by sparosnare
The Pens are more like Obama.

Talented new kids on the block up against the established team of experienced tough guys. The Wings play very dirty and have bloodied up the Pens trying to get them to give up. The Pens have only gotten stronger - just like Obama - in spite of Clinton's kitchen sink strategy and campaign of misinformation.

The Wings thought they'd have an easy time of it after the first two games; thought they were destined for their gazillionth Cup. The Pens might very well pull this off after last night (Super Tuesday?) The momentum is theirs.

;-)

10. Good analogy, too
especially the youth part.

Did you stay up for the winning goal?

14. Yes! I'm paying for it today, lol.
One of the best games I've ever seen, IMHO. Fleury had 55 saves (!) - Barry Melrose said it was the best goalie performance he's ever seen in a SC Final.

I've been a Pens fan since I was a kid and I have to tell you; been waiting a long time for this. I have my doubts they can take two more games from the Wings but you never know. :toast:

13. Another bright light!
"The Wings play very dirty and have bloodied up the Pens trying to get them to give up."

This is your first NHL playoff run, isn't it. (Here's a hint: hockey is a contact sport!)

Mallone got hit with a puck, btw.

17. Um - avid fan and know the game well.
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 09:20 AM by sparosnare
You obviously haven't been paying attention to this series or the Wings's style of play. Gotta give them credit for it; knocked the Pens off balance the first two games by keeping them out of the neutral zone. It's Malone, not "Mallone".

19. I don't care how you spell your goon's name.
(Though I notice you seem to have missed the fact that your fourth liner was hit in the face by a puck, not a stick or an elbow.)

I stand by my assessment: you've been an "avid fan" through the playoff run, no doubt, but your failure to identify any particularized "dirty play" tells me all I need to know about your complaints.

22. You sound like the one full of sour grapes.
Obvously you're not a Pens fan; you don't need to attack me personally. You are making assumptions about my depth and breadth of hockey knowledge based on your misinterpretation of my original post. I never even mentioned Malone.

24. No, I said upthread that I thoroughly enjoyed the Pen's performance last night
I am just calling you out on the "Wings play dirty" crap, which you can't back up with any facts.

... and Obama more as the Giants. Unbelievably exciting, came down to the wire, the underdog wins. :-)

(Not much of a hockey fan here :-))

9. I Was Thinking Of Sports Analogies
She reminds me of Ken Norton who came ever so close to becoming heavweight champ but didn't quite make it...He beat Muhammad Ali in a split decision in a non-title fight...He lost to Muhammad Ali in a split decision in the re-match...He then lost a heavily disputed unanimous decision to Ali when Ali was the champ...He also lost a heavily disputed title bout to Larry Holmes....

One of the best heavyweights of his era never to become champ...

11. The funny this is that the Pens/ and Sidney Crosby are Gary Bettman's darlings
The analogy doesn't work on so many levels, not the least of which is that the NHL is desperate to promote Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins! :silly:
