Officials: Clinton will concede delegate race to Obama
By BETH FOUHY, Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON - Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, campaign officials said, effectively ending her bid to be the nation's first female president.

The former first lady will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race in her speech in New York City. She will pledge to continue to speak out on issues like health care. But for all intents and purposes, the two senior officials said, the campaign is over.

Most campaign staff will be let go and will be paid through June 15, said the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge her plans.

22. Her only face-saving measure is to endorse the Democratic nominee
Anything else is just more of her 2012 strategy.

3.  "will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race" - there you have it. I caution people
to pay close attention to the wording here before breaking open the champagne.

4. Does that have something to do with campaign debt?

16. It has EVERYTHING to do with her campaign debt
If she formally drops out she cannot continue to raise money to pay off primary debts and the most she would be able to pay herself back for her millions in loans is $250,000. This gives her until August to raise more money herself and probably with Obama's help.

11. ^^^^^ important caveat here
Sounds like business as usual! He has the delegates but I will win because I don't accept the rules of the game.

13. Exactly. If there is one thing that we should have learned, and that is to be skeptical
what comes out of her campaign

Remember at the beginning of the primaries her campaign indicated they would abide by the DNC rules

18. I say "pay attention to the wording". Deosn't look like a true consessionm just labeling facts
we already know. He is ahead in the delegate count. I think this greatly depends on what happens in SD and Montana. If she is going to concede then I will have to wait until she truly concedes.

Long primary set to end with Obama set to clinch
By TOM RAUM – 2 hours ago
CHICAGO (AP) — History within his reach, Barack Obama is primed to claim the Democratic presidential nomination, and his dogged rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton, is preparing to concede once he's got the delegates.
Two Clinton aides have told The Associated Press that for all intents and purposes, her campaign is over. Obama could clinch the nomination Tuesday night, or even sooner.
The aides say once that happens, the New York senator will acknowledge that he's got the necessary delegates, but stop short of formally suspending or ending her campaign. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge her plans.
