WASHINGTON (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton will concede Tuesday night that Barack Obama has the delegates to secure the Democratic nomination, campaign officials said, effectively ending her bid to be the nation's first female president.

Obama is 40 delegates shy of clinching the nomination, but he is widely expected to make up the difference Tuesday with superdelegate support and votes in South Dakota and Montana. Once he reaches the magic number of 2,118, Clinton will acknowledge that he has secured the necessary delegates to be the nominee.

The former first lady will stop short of formally suspending or ending her race in her speech in New York City.

She will pledge to continue to speak out on issues like health care. But for all intents and purposes, the two senior officials said, the campaign is over.

Most campaign staff will be let go and will be paid through June 15, said the officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge her plans. more>>>>>

1. Terry McAuliffe just issued a statement saying "The AP story is 100% wrong."
It's truly crazy out there in Hillaryland.

8. I guess it depends on the meaning of "is" again. Or "nomination."
More melodrama. :puke:

11. They really could stand to get their shit together over there in Hillaryland.
They're starting to look a bit dramatic and mental. Whatever they're doing right now is the opposite of leadership, that's for sure.

As I type this, Harold Ickes is on MSNBC saying her campaign goes on through this week at the very least, says she'll be the nominee and they continue to make their case to superdelegates.

15. She just loves the attention. (No, I won't use the 'w'-word.)
Melodrama ... it's all she's ever had. She doesn't have it on the issues, or character, or inspiration. So she grabs the news cylces with melodrama. Disgusting. The nation deserved far better from the "first female contender" (since the last one). Shirley Chisholm had more class and character in her little finger than Hillary has dreamt of. (But I'm just an old fart, I guess.)

What a fuckin' embarrassment the Clinton Camp is today. Such an exciting night, and all they can do is try to grab headlines all day, and step on each other's ledes.

It's also clear evidence that Hillary has never had control or "edit privileges" over the Bill Wing of Hillaryland. It's pretty obvious that the AP sources are Hillary staff, and the Bill Wing (McAuliffe, Ickes, et al) immediately came out to shoot it down.

It's a circus, it's melodramatic, and it's the opposite of leadership, that's for sure.

5. Geez, they can't even concede without making a big drama out of it
I'm not going to trash Hillary any more, but this is the reason why I don't think she'd make a good VP. She can't even keep her people on the same page.

6. It will be up to the Super Delegates to end this insanity
I expect them to do so no later than Wednesday

However, even then I don't expect Clinton to necessarily conceede

2. She has, I believe, pledged to support Obama
and to help his campaign. Let us hope that all her supporters follow her example in doing this.

12. Which is why it won't happen.
It's starting to look like Hillary's speech tonight will be selfish-time, rather than "I lost, it's time for unity" time. :eyes:
