CLINTON CAMPAIGN IN CHAOS RIGHT NOW |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 10:57 AM by berni_mccoy
First it was McAuliffe on NBC this morning stating it was over and that it would not be going further.
Then it was the AP reporting that Clinton would concede Obama's win. (on edit: as a poster called out below, McAuliffe was behind this AP report as well... WTH?!)
Now McAuliffe is back in the news saying that's all wrong, that it's not over.
Guess what: this is the death-throes of a poorly run campaign that could not stay on message and could not control their staff.
It's over, whether she admits it or not. It's over.

117. Gerry F. has multiple myeloma and is just plain lucky to still be alive |
|
There is no way that her health issues would enable her to run: Both the stamina needed as well as the fact that she is living under a death sentence which the media would use an a weapon against the ticket.
Such a run by Clinton would seal her fate on the dust heap of history.

Did McAuliff actually appear on camera with a bottle of rum? I read that here yesterday but thought it was a joke. Now MSNBC is reporting it. If it's true, this goes beyond anything I've ever heard of before.

3. Well, it's at least clear that there are factions with Hillaryland that are at war with each other. |
|
My hunch is the Hillary crowd was AP's source, and the Bill crowd (McAuliffe, Ickes, et al) immediately shot it down.
It's pathetic, it's cartoonish, and it's unprofessional.

26. McAuliffe was the source of AP report, assumptions followed and lead to the whirlwind |
|
When McAuliffe said on teh Today show which the AP was reporting that she would acknowledge him being the nominee when he reaches the number tonight people assumed that meant she would concede, because thats what it means in normal situations and politics.
This is the result of parsing by Hillarys campaign, people cant keep up with the double speak.

If this is not delusional I don't know what else is, she can't win the nomination unless the Republicans are meddling with the Democrats which I won't be surprised.

This whole campaign has been media-driven to feed THEIR beast...
Hillary is just being Hillary..Everything's about HER..Her feelings, Her possibility of winning, Her message..She cannot comprehend that she lost, and has NO plans to ever really allow him to take a victory lap..

61. No. We, the public, are in chaos because we insist on things being said |
|
...before the appropriate time for them to be said. The polls are still open in South Dakota and Montana. No matter what may have been decided behind whatever scenes, there is no way in Hell Hillary Clinton went to this much trouble to see this through to the end so that all of America's voters get a chance to be heard (which is a good political stance and valuable to her legacy) only to have her campaign openly talk about how Obama has the delegates he needs for victory a few hours before the final polls close. If she wanted to send that message it would have been sent last week. No, she staked out a position - she would see this through to the end and then look at the bigger questions then. Her campaign could not confirm rumors about Hillary acknowledging Obama had the votes before the polls closed now even if they wanted to. It would trample on her own message.

80. McAuliffe is the spokesperson behind ALL THREE announcements. |
|
He can't control what he says or the Campaign doesn't have a clear message. Either way, you can't blame the people or the media for this.

99. Didn't you reply to a post yesterday with a tone of reconciliation? |
|
This is close to least of what she has done and it is not surprising. Why don't you wait a few days when it changes again?
No offense, but dragging this outrage out again, and again, and again is non-productive, uninteresting and meaningless. She lost, she will continue to fight, she take tenacious to a pathological level, she says outrageous things, etc., etc., etc.
The continued obsession with Hillary is beginning to look a little neurotic as well. Let it goooooooo.

71. I think it's very clear what's going on |
|
She's going to suspend her campaign, acknowledge Obama's success, and do what John Edwards did, not release her delegates until the time is right.
The media seems to be in a bit of chaos, but I really doubt that Clinton and her top advisers are.

not to mention it's a terrible thing to do to her supporters.

72. Why does this feel like a Seinfeld episode? |
|
It reminds me of when George tells Susan's parents that he owns a home in the Hamptons. They call his bluff, yet he insists on driving them to the end of Long Island before he fesses up that he doesn't own a house in the Hamptons.

77. well hell! if it was such a poorly ran campaign it at least had MOST |
|
of you obama folks scared shitless and thus you all had to resort to hate and vile name calling and did your best to turn hrc and bill into white supremists. But I do not fault you obama folks for this. It was something the campaign did and the whoremedia went along with and within a six month period, the man blacks said was the first black president, became a sheet wearing cross burning racist....there was no need for hrc to play the race card. it is not in their nature to do anything like this, but it happened, and I look for the speech obama will give asking for forgiveness from the clintons about this racial divisiness that he, his campaign and the media began against them..It will not be forthcoming of course, but as I have written often the only way obama could even win this campaign was to play the race card and blame hrc. he did and that allowed others to post their vile comments......and hey, even I was called a bigot, racist as well as others that did not support obama and still do not, but that is okay, and maybe obama will win in november.
I hope he does because if not this forum will implode with all the blame directed at hrc and bill but your disappoinment should be directed at obama for being " just a politician".

83. Face it. Her campaign was a miserable failure. She was supposed to wrap this up on Super Tuesday |
|
She had every advantage: a war chest full of cash. Name recognition. Nearly 200 super delegate endorsements to start. Bill Clinton. Political machinery in every state.
She trusted Mark Penn's winner-take-all strategy which was the worst decision anyone could have made.
She started going into personal attacks after losing the early primaries.
She got desperate and ran to RW media outlets after losing 14 straight contests.
She started pandering toward racism and religous bigotry.
Her campaign is a failure and could not stay on message or control her staffers.
It's over.

92. Any 'strategy' that makes you look like you can't get your message straight is either |
|
a losing strategy or a desperate one. It's a deaththroe of the campaign that they can't get a solid exit strategy straight.

But it may be on purpose. That is all I mean. And for a campaign that has been so wrong on strategy, a bad strategy would not be surprising in the least.

What gain could they possibly get from looking like they don't have their head on straight?

103. That's along the lines of what I was thinking. |
|
For a certain time, the spotlight was focused more on Obama vs. McCain. The dynamic is deadly for her. It's irrelevant a few weeks out from here of course, either way. I hope she will be a good senator supporting a progressive agenda. Obama will be nominee and I hope she vigorously supports him and his running mate.
