Why Is It Necessary For Her To Concede? |
|
If it's over it's over. She isn't the umpire in the game. If she can't face or accept it, isn't that her problem? The rest of us will be moving on. There a McSame out there to McBeat.

report on AP appears to be most likely attributed to people from her campaign being tired, and some general confusion as they shut-down the effort. It is known that yesterday, in an "0ff-the-record" discussion, Harold I. told someone they know the contest is over. And Terry M. said something on NBC that indicated that Senator Clinton would speak about Obama's having the delegates needed to be the nominee.
However, no campaign is supposed to discourage voters when there are on-going elections. This is much like the networks agreeing not to release east coast numbers while the west coast polls are open.
Senator Clinton wants to do well today, in order to strengthen her leverage during the convention. Two of her top people are still hoping she can be VP.
There is a lot of tension and confusion associated with events like today. But it will turn out well.

|
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 11:10 AM by Tippy
Conceding is not required but in order for all supporters to go on they usually do it....I am so upset now with Clinton changin her mind about bowing out.....I understand her supporters are probably going nuts about now....It is really a diservice to them...They won't even view it that way till later....WHO is at fault....The super deligates that's who they could have ended it early today....

6. If she doesn't concede she still gets press coverage |
|
and she can still convince some gullible people to donate to her campaign, and she can then use those contributions to repay herself the money she loaned the campaign.
If she conceded only an idiot would contribute.
Obama could repay her campaign debt but he should make her (or Bill) publicly beg first.

Obama has moved on. He hasn't spent a single red cent arguing against Clinton, but instead, has moved on to fight the real enemy, McCain. Yet his supporters just can't get over the love of hating. Sad, really. They are railing against nothing. They are ignoring Obama's requests, ignoring his lead. Pathetic.

9. It can help her supporters move on |
|
If Clinton has the good of the party at heart, this is the proper thing to do. Graciously concede and then help the candidate in whatever capacity he desires. This sets a good example for her supporters and shows party unity.

10. Because it would be much needed medicine |
|
If she concedes and offers her support to Obama, it will be like sterile water, Bactine and clean bandages to the wounds the party has given itself during the primary. If she does not, our wounds will likely fester and leave scars.

12. Is she's smart she would concede |
|
Continuing on after Obama has the needed delegates makes her look like a poor loser, and that kind of public image will have a lasting impact on the legacy of both Clintons.

How can we fight an effective campaign if Obama has to split his time and attention between McCain and Hillary?

16. She can't endorse the nominee without conceding first, I'm pretty sure. |
|
And if she doesn't endorse the nominee, then she's betraying the party and failing to do what's best for the country. So not conceding would be an act of sheer political hubris, ultimately, that would only hurt the Clintons. She'll concede; she has no choice, really.

I am more concerned about content than form. I think it would cross a line though for her to continue to win Obama's committed delegates after he definitely has a majority.

So that they don't have to spend the next 3 months like they have the last 2 - living on a hope that's been perpetrated by a myth, only to be forced to face reality, their disappointment and their anger a mere 9 weeks before the general election.

26. "Suspension," given previous threats of a Convention fight will send a message to Democrats |
|
it will undermine unity in a big way... without a super-endorsement and whole hearted support
we'll see how it goes, but I don't trust her advisors to have the best interests of the party at heart
