20. Like, seven in the last hour or something
I think what's causing the confusion is that some of the supers once supported Clinton, so that counts as a -1 for her.

Or something. All I know is we're getting closer by the minute!!

... saying he has 2084.5 total delegates as I type this. They just reported that number again moments ago. Can't find their math online, but I'm looking!

Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 12:55 PM by Jeff In Milwaukee
Either he's adopted or I am...I forget.

Anyway, when they cast "The Barak Obama Story," Jake is going to get the part of "Young Barak" hands-down. Skinny kid. Jug Ears. He could be Barak's "Mini Me."

Jake's 11 years old and huge Obama fan. I asked him about it one day, and he said, "Because he looks just like me!"

Think about it. Every African American kid in America, getting to look at the man behind the podium with the Presidential Seal and thinking, "Hey, he looks just like me." Maybe if things work out in 2016, little girls can have that same experience.

But for now, this really rocks!

66. The day after the Iowa Caucus, I read a beautiful post on an AA blog that I'll never forget.
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 01:13 PM by VolcanoJen
The women wrote that she awoke her two small daughters so that they could watch Obama's victory speech in Iowa. She pointed to Melia and Sascha, who were with him and Michelle that night, and told her daughters, "Look! Those two beautiful black girls might get to go live in the White House."

She wrote that her childrens' eyes were filled with wonder. And mine were filled with tears as I read her story.

And here we are, on June 3rd, and it's happening. We're on our way to fulfilling a dream. This is a moment for America, not just Obama supporters, not just Democrats.

All of us.

Assuming Barak gets 15-16 delegates pledged from the primaries and a dozen of Edwards delegates come out in support, that would be 27-28 in the bag. It will only take a few more SD's to get to the magic number.

58. He's going to trickle these out all day long.
A friend of mine who works in Charles Rangels' office says that calls are frantically being made to prevent the number from cresting 2118 before her speech tonight. He feels that the Obama camp will have the numbers by 7 p.m. which would effectively alter the coverage of a “victory”-ish speech by Sen. Clinton.

They don't want that to happen, but probably can't stop it. Now that we're under the magic 30 (two more in the last 15 minutes)

65. I think she could have stopped the bleeding.
The floodgates opened moments after HillaryLand debunked the AP's concession speech story. It's as if Team Obama had prepared supers for that eventuality, and that's when it happened.

Think about it... just a few hours ago, here at DU we were all talking about "Hillary's not conceding after all!!!" and now the story is "Obama is going to cross the threshold before the polls close."

Our candidate is surrounded by political genius. That gives me SO MUCH CONFIDENCE going into November!!!!!

If they'll run the total down to 7 or 8, and then allow the delegates won in South Dakota to officially put him over the top. That would mute the, "He only won because of the Super Delegates" meme from being repeated endlessly for the next news cycle.

He hits the number, or he hits the number. It would be slightly more poetic if pledged delegates put him over the top, but a number is a number is a number, you know?

I'm thinking supers might be getting a little anxious to jump on board now, to indicate to our nominee that they weren't waiting to see what others will do. :-) Damned politicans!!!!! ;-)

and to go somewhat "under the radar" with the own constituents who are rapid Hillary supporters, some of the SD's in Congress might want to go en masse to avoid being singled out as the person who stuck the final fork in her candidacy.

83. DemConWatch @ 31.5: SC Rep. John Spratt for Obama
I've been leaning that way for a long while, but keeping my powder dry," he said. "Look, I could support several of any contenders in this primary. If Hillary had a majority of the votes at this point, or the prospect of it, I would consider supporting her. She's run an impressive race. But according to Democratic Party rules, I think Obama has earned the Democratic nomination. It's time to rally behind him, unite the party and go for the real prize."
