Hillbat on Hartmann
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 12:12 PM by grassfed
Will risk Pres McCain and the end of abortion rights rather than vote for Obama. Says it's because of his votes.

Hillary
NO on Amendment No. 4882 that would have banned the use of cluster bombs in civilian areas.
YES on Bankruptcy bill which stripped protections for people in debt.
YES on Kyle/Lieberman bill that sets the stage for the US to take military action against Iran - Fool me once...
YES on the Iraq War Resolution.
Hillary refused to sign the AFC Anti-Torture Pledge

OBAMA
YES on Amendment No. 4882 that would have banned the use of cluster bombs in civilian areas.
NO on Bankruptcy bill which stripped protections for people in debt.
In response to the Kyle/Lieberman bill that sets the stage for the US to take military action against Iran Obama drafted legislation stating that Congress did not grant President Bush the authority to attack Iran, either through the Kyl-Lieberman amendment or any resolution previously adopted.
Took a public stand against the Iraq War Resolution
OBAMA signed the AFC Anti-Torture Pledge

Cluster bombs and landmines are particularly terrifying weapons that wreak havoc on communities trying to recover from war. They are fatal impediments to reconstruction and rehabilitation of agricultural land; they destroy valuable livestock; they disable otherwise productive members of society; they maim or kill children trying to salvage them for scrap metal. Over 150 nations have signed the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty. In the autumn of 2006, there was a chance to take a step in the right direction: Senate Amendment No. 4882, an amendment to a Pentagon appropriations bill that would have banned the use of cluster bombs in civilian areas. Amendment No. 4882 was an easy one to vote against: Who'd want to risk accusation of "tying the hands of the Pentagon" during a never-ending, global War on Terror? As is so often the case, there was no political cost to doing the wrong thing. And there was no political reward for doing the right thing.
But Senator Obama did the right thing.
Senator Obama of Illinois voted IN FAVOR of the ban.
Senator Clinton of New York voted AGAINST the ban.
Analysts say Clinton did not want to risk appearing "soft on terror," as it would have harmed her electability. Amendment Rejected.

1. Well, at least she managed to say WHY she was a Hillbot
Her reasons were mostly bullshit, but at least she had something behind her rhetoric. Certainly better than the usual scripted Hillbot calls.

Funny though, it's getting so you can tell 4 words into the phone call who the Hillbots are. Maybe I should be Thom's call screener?

13. there is a component of race in this no matter what they say. That
harriet shrew put it out in public. She ripped off the civility of OBAMA people giving them the benefit of the doubt. there is race at the root of this too.

Don't forget that Obama voted NO on giving immunity to the telecoms, and Hillary didn't vote.

5. Why would anyone vote to not ban cluster bombs in civilian areas?
I remember Princess Diana going overseas somewhere and fighting to stop land mines and they showed all these kids who lost limbs because of them. It was horrible.

What was their motivation to vote "no"? I would like to ask both of them.

7. When you are on the payroll of the Armaments manufacturers and AIPAC,
you can't afford to vote NO.

8. A Hillary supporter here tried to defend it by saying to ban cluster bombs
would "hamstring" the military. Yes, it would indeed hamstring the military if their goal is to create a generation of limbless children across the Middle East, but even I, no fan of war or the military, don't imagine that to be their mission.

Ryuichi Sakamoto is a Japanese musician and has taken up the cause of trying to end cluster bombs. The lyrics are by David Sylvian.

Zero Landmine

This Is My Home
The Land Of My Mother
The Place I Play
With Sisters And Brothers
The Trees Are Rooted
In The Ground Beneath
Take Away The Violence
Give The Earth Back Its Peace

This Is Our World
Our Common Salvation
It Knows No Borders
It Serves No Nation
The Same Sun Shines Equally
On Those Beneath
Take Away The Violence
Give The Earth Back Its Peace

There's Fire In The Ground
In The Space Between The Trees
In The Forests and Fields
On Pathways, In Dreams

The Stars Are Whispering
To The Ground Beneath
Take Away The Darkness
Give The Earth Back Its Peace

Who Painted The Green Grass Red
With Danger
Who Coloured The Big Sky Blue
With Sorrow
A Strong Wind Carrying Fear
And Anger
Came And Went And Stole Tomorrow

This Is My Home
The Land Of My Mother
The Place I Play
With Sisters And Brothers
The Trees Are Rooted
In the Ground Beneath
Take Away The Violence
Give the Earth Back Its Peace

The Same Sun Shines Equally
On Those Beneath
Take Away The Darkness
Give The Earth Back Its Peace

Like Trees We're Rooted
In the Ground Beneath
Take Away the Violence
Give the Earth Back Its Peace

14. Your Welcome ;=D
I've been a huge fan of Sakamoto since he was with Yellow Magic Orchestra. Not very many people are aware of him.

I love his working relationship with Sylvian.

I also loved his acting in Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, as well as The Last Emperor.

YMO made an appearance for Al Gore's concert, Live Earth. They only showed a small portion :( but it was excellent.

Here's another collaberation Sakamoto and Sylvian

World Citizen

There goes one baby's life
It's such a small amount
She's un-American
I guess it doesn't count

Six thousand children's lives
Were simply thrown away
Lost without medicine
Inside of thirty days

In the New York harbour
Where the stock's withheld
It was the price we paid
For a safer world

World is suffering
World is suffering
World is suffering
World citizen

In Madhya Pradesh
Where they're building dams
They're displacing native people
From their homes and lands

So they hunger strike
Cos they believe they count
To lose a single life
Is such a small amount

In the name of progress
And democracy
The concepts represented in name only

His world is suffering
Her world is suffering
Their world is suffering
World citizen

World citizen

And the buildings fall
In a cloud of dust
And we ask ourselves
How could they hate us?
Well, when we live in ignorance and luxury
While our super powers practice
Puppet mastery

We raise the men
Who run the fascist states
And we sell them arms
So they maintain their place

We turn our backs
On the things they done
Their human rights record
And the guns they run

His world is suffering
Her world is suffering
Their world is suffering
World citizen

My world is suffering
Your world is suffering
Our world is suffering
World citizen

Who'll do away with flags?
Who'll do us proud?
Remove the money from their pockets
Scream dissent out loud?

Cos god ain't on our side
The shoe won't fit
And though they think the war is won
That's not the last of it

Disenfranchised people
Need their voices heard
And if no one stops to listen
Lose their faith in words

And violence rises
When all hope is lost
Who'll embrace the human spirit
And absorb the cost?

Not one life is taken
In my name
In my name

His world is suffering
Her world is suffering
Their world is suffering
World citizen

My world is suffering
Your world is suffering
Our world is suffering
World citizen
