And in addition to alienating some of their constituents I think they're loathe to alienate Hillary JUST IN CASE, which is why they may give her a chance to bow out gracefully.

Senate Majority Leader is still a possibility, so if they don't have a position secured in an Obama administration they might still be scared of Hillary.
