"Why is tonight about her?"
Chuck Todd just reported that the Obama campaign is asking that question ~ after all, the first AA is clinching the nomination. Interesting!

1. and Andrea also said
Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 12:42 PM by ErinBerin84
that someone from the Clinton campaign was talking about party unity and saying "It's HIS JOB to come to HER! He needs HER." Haha. Andrea and Chuck are being funny right now, basically making fun of both sides. They've probably been on the phone with these people all day.
edit: Also, Chuck Todd said that the Clinton campaign people are saying that tonight is her night because Obama will have ALL SUMMER for "his moment" (well, I think we'll be concentrating on McCain instead of celebrating, but whatever). What I wouldn't give to be listening into some of these conversations!

17. If the roles were reversed between Obama and Clinton
they would have forced Obama out of the race by now. Hillary would have threatened to hunt down undeclared supers if they didn't come out for her if she was this close to the nomination.

Maybe your candidate should have won a while back and this wouldn't be an issue.

He hasn't been able to close the deal.
That's his problem.

I don't feel sorry for him.

And the hypothetical isn't worth much.

I hate losing this thing.

I have supported Hillary since the beginning and I have donated money and I have campaigned.
I believe she is the stronger candidate.

The way Obama's supporters are "winning" tonight is unfortunate.
And it does hurt.

We'll see how that plays out for Obama down the road.

I refuse to rub anyone's face in it, but I also refuse to feel "guilty" for winning.
This is the first time in my life that my first choice has taken it all the way to the nomination. I'm thrilled, and there is no reason why we should be denied our moment.

Our party's moment. Our nation's moment.

We all have much to be proud of today... it's got me a little weepy, to be honest.

It's been an historic campaign... all 50 states got to vote, and we have Hillary and Barack both to thank for taking it the distance. But in the end, someone wins, and someone loses. And it's time to come together, it really is.

Some Obama supporters might go a little over-the-top in their giddy-ness tonight and I might be among them. But please don't deny us our moment, either. We shouldn't have to feel bad. We shouldn't have to feel guilty. This is an amazing day for our country, and we should *all* be proud!

Interestingly enough, they're both in NY tonight, aren't they?

myriad lies, obfuscations, mis-steps, poor planning, poor personnel choices...?

Do you REALLY want me to go there?

Sun Tsu said that when two evenly matched armies meet, victory does not go to the most valiant; it goes to the general who makes the fewest mistakes.

If she can't run her campaign - and you know what I'm talking about because you replied to several of the criticisms in this thread alone - then she is NOT the most prepared to run the country. She was NOT prepared; she was NOT ready. She thought she had to but reach out and claim the prize.

196. OK
Bosnia - flat out lying to the public about her own personal experiences several times.

War chest - spending out her 100 million in the expectation that the campaign would end on super-tuesday.

Mark Penn - posing as a supporter of unions, while hiring a union-buster to run her campaign.

NAFTA - for it before she was against it.

Iraq War - for it before she was against it.

IWR vote - either she believed what Bush said (when less informed persons knew better) OR she didn't believe and voted purely for political advantage -- neither option is acceptable.

Kyl-Lieberman vote - just weeks after saying that she was misled on the IWR vote (which shows great depth of perception on her part) she goes and votes to declare a part of the Iranian armed forces a 'terrorist organization' - which is all that Bush needs to justify attacking Iran.

Shall I continue, with say her duplicity about GLBT issues? Corporatist connections? AIPAC? She and her surrogates injecting race (Hispanics in NV will never vote for Obama - Of course SC voted for him, he is the black candidate, etc.)

People who oppose Hillary have many good, sound reasons for doing so.

And she is NEVER going to be on Obama's ticket. He's too smart to let her drag him down.

(I really tried to play nice - but you fucking pushed.)

And, as political junkies know, the night belongs to the winner, not to the loser.

I imagine Hillary will try to time her speech to come before Obama's, and I hope it's uplifting. It's entirely up to her how she chooses to leave the race, but the night belongs to Obama, to our party, and to our nation.

We are witnessing history.

Edited on Tue Jun-03-08 12:58 PM by Liberal_Stalwart71
This contest was over months ago because we all knew that she couldn't catch him in pledged delegates. Obama did her a favor by encouraging her to stay in the race for as long as she wanted. Why couldn't SHE close the deal?

She was supposed to be the stronger candidate!
She was supposed to be the candidate who can beat John McSame!

So if those things are true, then why haven't the superdelegates flocked to her?

Why aren't the voters flocking to her?

Why is she STILL losing???

68. Winning is Winning
You have to reach a delegate count to win.
He hasn't until now. It's June.

If he won PA or Ohio he may have been able to settle this a long time ago.
But he couldn't -- despite having "won" in February.

Calling someone "sweetheart" to diminish their opinion isn't helpful either.

And then I was ecstatic when Kerry chose him to be his VP.

Anything can happen. But it's an election, and someone has to lose. This is the first time I've ever been a winner and I really, truly do know how you feel.

Well, she did run a good race
I think that she will be remembered as an excellent candidate with a mediocre staff and campaign. Mark Penn has solidified himself as a footnote in history as a very inept campaign strategist. Didn't even know that the Dem contests were proportional at first either.

87. Ugh .. Mark Penn ...
He is ultimately her fault -- she hired him.
But she is definitely a fantastic national figure -- and just by being a woman who has done what she has done in her career is historical.

It's unfortunate that we've lost sight of that during this race.

Of course, she'll crow on endlessly about lopsided victories in WV and PR, but we can't attack her for that.

108. Yes, I know that he hasn't *officially* won yet...
But since when are these things dragged out to the bitter end like this? What benefit does it serve? All of the other contenders dropped out or suspended their campaigns once it became apparent that they weren't going to win... I am sure it was very hard for them, but they did it for the good of the party and (dare I say it?) for the good of their supporters. I was originally for Biden- I still love the guy:loveya: Once he dropped out it took me a while to warm up to anyone else. But now I've had time to adjust and I am completely in Obama's camp now. Because she has refused to be a grown-up and has dragged this out to the biterest of bitter ends, we will have a devil of a time coming together.... and some of her most unbalanced supporters probably never will be able to. It's sad that she thinks so little of her supporters and the rest of the party. Like I said, I'm pretty disgusted with the woman at this point...

Hers are self inflicted wounds from a badly run campaign, to money badly spent to her eternal long goodbye. He will be the head of the party. She lost because SHE planed wrong, hired the wrong people, did not read the rules, overspent..HE did not BEAT her..She BEAT HERSELF..

Had SHE concentrated on the states that put him ahead, she MIGHT have won this thing..

Had she not pissed off 90% of the African American base, she might have won some places she lost big..

It's amazing that misogyny is so accepted, yet if anything is said even remotely racist everyone is in arms.

Do you realize Hillary has millions of supporters who have wanted her to fight until the end?

And there are plenty of successful female politicians out there (Boxer, Feinstein, Barabara Lee, Maxine Waters, Sebelius, McCaskill etc). She's not the touchstone for women or feminism.

148. heh ...
From Wikipedia:

A native of Illinois, Hillary Rodham first attracted national attention in 1969 for her remarks as the first student to deliver the commencement address at Wellesley College. She embarked on a career in law after graduating from Yale Law School in 1973. Following a stint as a Congressional legal counsel, she moved to Arkansas in 1974, and married Bill Clinton in 1975. She was later named the first female partner at Rose Law Firm in 1979, and was twice listed as one of the one hundred most influential lawyers in America.

----

And it would make sense for a misogynist to disregard the work Hillary did aside from her husband -- as well as to dismiss the work she did to get her husband to the Presidency.

Some of us weren't even born then. What does it matter to me that she was the first female partner of the Rose Law Firm? Why should I care and what does that have to do with her inability to admit that she's lost. It's pathetic.

63. Narcisstic Personality Disorder...At least FIVE of these need to be present:

(1) Possesses a grandiose sense of self importance (for example: exaggerates his achievements and his talents, expects his superiority to be recognised without having the commensurate skills or achievements).

(2) Pre-occupied with fantasies of unlimited success, power, brilliance and beauty or of ideal love.

(3) Believes that he is unique and special and that only high status and special people (or institutions) could understand him (or that it is only with such people and institutions that it is worth his while to be associated with).

(4) Demands excessive and exceptional admiration.

(5) Feels that he is deserving of exceptionally good treatment, automatic obeisance of his (usually unrealistic) expectations.

(6) Exploitative in his interpersonal relationships, uses others to achieve his goals.

(7) Lacks empathy: is disinterested in other people's needs and emotions and does not identify with them.

(8) Envies others or believes that others envy him.

(9) Displays arrogance and haughtiness.

Without being in the spotlight flailing about 24/7, she returns to the comfort of her Senate seat and the cameras turn toward Barack as the Democratic nominee.

And this protracted nomination process is the break she was afforded graciously. That's it. There's nothing else for her. And for all practical purposes, yes, she will be forgotten in the bigger scheme of things.
